What the hell is wrong with Japan and their anime?

Animation has always been quite awe-inspiring, and Japanese animation has been particularly impressive for a long time. Mr. Disney himself was better for his time, but everyone in Japan is vying for second place. Who's third? Illumination Minions? God save us all.

Japan is not a model country for progress. For example, they still use fax machines for paying bills, which is behind the modern system. Social norms are another issue. I understand that Japan has a rich history of animation, but it is still the Cadillac of animation across history. Story telling not so much.
