What do you think about this Russian expansionist idea?

In a recent appearance on Russia's state-run television, Russian political scientist Sergey Mikheyev suggested that the country's "empire" should grow to encompass three American states. Anton Gerashchenko, an outspoken critic of Russia, reposted his comments on X (formerly Twitter), adding his own comment.

What do you think about this?

Given how much hate Americans display for each other it's not beyond the possibility a state could be used as a bargaining chip. Imagine Trump being incensed that few in california voted for him but he wanted a trade deal with Putin? Or Biden wanted to negotiate a peace deal on the verge of war, good bye Hawaii.

Russia is a Greedy country, always wanting more. It has done the same with Georgia and Ukraine.

I wouldn’t be surprised with them wanting whole Europe for themselves.

The Russians have stated they consider the sale of Alaska illegal and will look into it. Finland, the Baltic states and Poland all know that once Ukraine is defeated they are next inline. Finland more so than other countries know what the Russians do to the native population.

There were already people there. The Russian settlements were primarily trading posts, not colonies.

The difference is the US is now here. Russia is not in Alaska. There are a lot (well not per sq mile) of Americans in Alaska, original natives or otherwise. The fact that they had some settlements there a couple hundred years ago is irrelevant; it's like Norway claiming Canada because of Leif Ericsson.

If it was not theirs to sell, the sale becomes null and that means it does not belong to the US.
It was sold in 1867 and they continued have settlements there, Alaska did not become a state until 1959, not exactly welcomed into the US with open arms.
Putins argument (Dmitry Medvedev) is that if the sale was illegal, it reverts back to Russian ownership.
It’s not just they had settlements there, it’s that they had claimed it as part of Russian Empire.
Now yes it’s barking mad, but I can see how they are thinking.
It’s how Russian logic tends to work.
That going through the UN courts would be amusing, it’s not like the US is globally liked or respected, a number of countries could see it as nice little bit of pay back or a way to get some US dollars etc.

Alaska was sold to the USA. Hawaii has been a wreck since the USA invaded it. California is just a debt pit. Finland is cool, but Poland is a hellhole.

So my guess is he's just being dramatic to stir the waters. Russia isn't "expansionist" like the USA is.
