1) That pie chart is very deceiving. It was obviously made by someone with a bias against military spending. It's "lying with statistics". That chart is only discretionary spending, which is only about a third of the federal budget, and even smaller portion of all government spending.
2) I don't know how other countries do their accounting, but the US military budget contains a LOT that is not military.
3) The military is the biggest and best social welfare program.
4) The military is the biggest and best education system. They run a bunch of full universities, several specialized graduate schools, and a whole slew of trade schools and other type of training. Military trained people work in virtually every type of civilian jobs. They are well trained and make great employees.
5) They do a tremendous amount of engineering, design and research. You are using one of those things right now - the Internet.
6) The original country didn't have a central government at all. No congress, no president, no supreme court, no military - nothing. Creating a military was a major driving force behind creating a central government. The military was, and is, one of the biggest reasons for the existence of the federal government.
7) Last but not least. Virtually all military spending goes to pay people to work.
They should decrease offense spending and only invest in defense spending
Yes, cut it to the bone, starting with the incompetent bureaucracy at the top who promote "woke" causes. Then abolish the USMC, scrap most of the navy, and terminate the F-35 and F-22 fighter programmes. Close down Area 51 and all other secret bases. Close ALL military bases that aren't actually within the U. S. Stop funding Israel.

Reagan was an asshole and promised to "spend the USSR into the ground" and he did. All those new jobs never went away cuz Congress is a bunch of cowards to lose jobs in their district and then the wars if choice and war on terrorism occurred and here we are. Fuck Reagan. And for you Brits, fuck thatcher too. Damn fan girl.
No. I think we need a strong military. I think we need to stop giving all these other countries money. Stop getting us involved in other countries affairs. These countries need to handle their own issues. Stop sending our troops to fight other countries’ wars. All these politicians who are making hundreds of thousands of dollars should take a cut in pay. I know war isn’t always a good thing in most people’s eyes, which hopefully we don’t ever have to go to war again. But it’s better to have it than not have it at all.
I mean I want to say yes. But the REALITY is we are the world's LONE SUPERPOWER. And as uncle Ben will tell you, "with great power comes great responsibility".😆 The truth is the United States has many enemies always waiting to pounce simply for the fact that we exist. So our military spending is kind of necessary.

It is our military might that has allowed us to live this well relatively unscathed. If we weren't so well equipped the horrible FUBAR of Bidens retreat from Afiganistan would have been far worse. First of all, U. S. military spending is about $850,000,000,000, NOT $600,000,000,000. Secondly, slash it by three-quarters and work on repairing the schools, infrastructure, health care system and other aspects of life citizens of other First World countries take for granted.

The US needs to maintain an overwhelmingly powerful military to maintain the petrodollar. If they didn't have the World's Reserve Currency they could not maintain their astronomical debt. The US would go broke and collapse overnight. This is the path Nixon chose for the country in the 1970s and it's too late to go back.
We should stop spending money on foreign wars we have no stake in, that is where the real waste is.
