I think that applies in multiple ways.
As for the pill poppers, booger sugar lovers, nose candy fanatics or needle nuts it’s not pathetic, it’s a problem & without treatment unfortunately it doesn’t always work out.
I do not. I think they need support, security and a place to safely rest their head at night.
Drug addicts aren’t perfect for sure and I’ve seen some that are just bat shit crazy but drugs will eventually do that.
I do not punish drug addicts through humiliation or mockery cause I think being addicted to drugs is punishment enough. But I will never invite an addict to my dinner party.

Pathetic? No. But they made choices that created their sad situation, and they should take responsibility for that, not blame others and expect others to help them now.
No why would I find the way their brain is hard wired to be addictive a pathetic thing when it's out of their control.
Life can be a funny hard experience... people would be amazed how easy it is for any one to spiral into addiction.

It's very sad. I'm fortunate they have no appeal to me.

Not being able to handle reality and following the crowd like a lemming is pretty pathetic.
