They discovered America, we’re in part responsible for France (Normandy), creation of Russia (Rus), established trade routes across the known world, employed in Byzantium Empire as Varangian guard from Kievan Rus. Founded Greenland, Iceland, raided and settled numerous countries including England, Scotland and Ireland. Their descendants the Normans had a major impact on the medieval world.
As sailors there were able to navigate across the Atlantic, North Sea, European Rivers, Mediterranean.

The Vikings founded Normandy after the Battle of Chartres, this lead to a long history with Normandy first providing a King of England and lands for the English crown. The battles in Normandy and Aquitaine between English and French led to the creation of what we now see as France, it looked very different to how it is now and may have never been without those Rus landing in Normandy and their raiding which resulted in people there banding together to fight them
