People who have "switched sides" politically: did you go left to right or right to left? And what made you decide to change?

Went from hard right to moderate left. Raised in an ultra religious household so of course the first thing I discarded was religion. This was about when the libertarian party was first being commandeered to trick left leaning moderates into moving to the far right and I kind of snuck in by accident in the opposite direction. Libertarian until I got a job. One day the vending machine raised all their prices by 10 cents and everyone vowed to boycott. I was on board with that but of course it was completely empty within three days.

That combined with a shady manager illustrated to me the importance of having a check on big business, with firsthand experience that boycotting (the libertarian trump card) was a fantasy. I cast about trying to figure out how we could stand up to big business until it occured to me that thats actually supposed to be the job of the government and that lobbying is an ongoing effort, even as we speak, to thwart that. And the reason it is an ongoing effort is because it has not yet been thwarted. Government is a tool and we can pick it up as easily as businesses have. We just have to stop being tricked, by big business, into mocking it.

I moved from far right to center left. Then the left swung so far that i ended up center right. Ell oh ell! I’m really not. My values haven’t changed meaningfully in twenty years. But the left has absolutely left the ranch.

I realized that supporting the uber wealthy and corporations was never going to benefit me. I decided that human rights should trump profits every time. You simply can’t be a conservative and believe that in the US. They are diametrically opposed.

I went from 'technically liberal,' to hard right, to center. I never really fully agreed with liberal politics, but I just went along with it because everyone did, and slowly grew more frustrated with it. Then a little over a year ago, I discovered some Conservative podcasters like Brett Cooper and Amala and Candice Owens, and at first, I was excited to see people expressing opinions that weren't far left. But shortly I began to get just as bothered by many of their views and opinions, and when I reached Redpill, I did a full turnaround and re-examined all my opinions to the core, and realized I only agree with people on the right and left to varying degrees. I've grown a little more center-left since then, but I'm pretty solid on where I stand now. It just sucks because I never hear people speaking from center politics.

What pushed you away from it? Or pulled you to the other side?

I've always been more on the conservative side. Though for a time, I was what I like to call a pseudo-liberal, or what some others might call a squishy conservative or neo-con. Nowadays, I jokingly call myself an "arch-conservative". In reality, I'm just more confident and hard-lined about what I believe than I had been in the past.

I was raised in a moderately liberal Democratic family. My mother was the local Democratic Ward Leader. Over time, I've become an Independent, with some liberal views and some conservative views.

Always been moderate but leaned slightly to the right until Trump came along. They've probably lost me permanently at this point.
