Self defense or murder?

Back in 2020 during a BLM protest in Houston Texas, Daniel Perry was working as a Uber driver who happened to turn into the area of protest when the victim Garrett Foster approached the driver side of his car within 18 inches with an AK-47 on hand but not aimed at Perry, but Perry claimed he "believed" the victim would have aimed at him and shot and killed Garrett Foster.

Perry was convicted of murder to 25 years in prison but the governor pardoned him, now he's free for good.

Opponents say it was politically motivated by right wingers like governor Abbot to pardon Perry and that injustice happened.

I firmly believe that people have the right to defend themselves before another person actually tries to kill them. Most reasonable self defense and stand your ground laws are written based upon the understanding that dead people can’t defend themselves. So you shouldn’t have to wait for someone with a deadly weapon to use it on you before you take action.
If you don’t want to get shot to death, don’t openly carry deadly weapons and accost strangers who may be prepared to defend themselves. It’s actually pretty simple.

I’d have to know the real details of the situation, but from the sound of it, this was murder.

Texas is an open carry state, so whoever this guy with the K was was within his rights to walk around with it out in plain sight.

I also just know Governor Abbott to be a bad actor in general, so the very fact that he did this makes it inherently suspect, haha

Yes, Texas is a open gun carry state but the victim approached the shooter's side window within 18 inches telling him to put the window down a bit.

It's reasonable to think the dude might smoke you with his gun on his hands, so Perry smoked him first.

Are you saying that Perry should have let Foster shoot first? No I don’t think so. There should be no guns allowed in a protest, protest should be peaceful not acting like idiots, the places you loot, burn, people you harm had no involvement in what you are protesting

He ran a red light into a crowd, and then was surprised a man approached and said to roll his window down? And his first reaction was, as an armed man, to assume this armed man was going to murder him? That doesn't sound right. Sorry. I think he knew what he was doing.
