I thanked a veteran and talked to him about his service. I wish could have talked more. he flew copters in vietnam. what a mess. We took the kids out target shooting... it's a start. I forgot to tell them they were shooting at humans instead of plastic bottles. next time...
To be honest I think we all suck and don't do enough. People give or are forced to sacrifice their lifes and we all take it for granted and live "high on the hog". Don't make it a day, make it all year and when encounter someone, consider giving them the emotional support or support that we are all indebted for. None asked for the crap they got.
We missed opportunity to have kids stair at tombstones... another time. I like the idea of watching war movies and I like the idea of having people sit in muddy cold ditches for an hour throwing water balloons even better. Then they start to get the idea...
I think about my comrades, both those who lost their life over there, and those who lost their battles once they returned. I refocus my attention and efforts towards helping the survivors and remembering the valiant sacrifices of the dead.
It’s also important to not forget the terrible cost of all wars.
Well, a Rifleman in the British army created me, so there's that... and my significant other is an ex marine, so id say they have greatly impacted my life.
I light a candle in their memory @ Church on Sunday and we share stories about the soldiers among our family and friends who have passed.
That's very nice. A great way to honor them and keep their memories alive.

"how has a soldier or soldiers impacted your life?"
I have no idea, I'm not privy to any sort of mission details or defeated threats, they tend to keep that info rather private (for I supposed safety and stealth/mission success reasons).
"How do you honor those that are no longer with us?"
I don't, you can't honor a dead person. Souls aren't real, so anything you did as a thank you, they'd not be able to witness, and since I have no idea whats going on, I also have no idea who deserves thanks and who deserves criticism.
I don't even have news (unless you count technology advancement news, ecology news, medical and biology news, or news about video game releases and whatnot). ... Not that I'd have any way to verify what news claims are accurate and which ones are bullshit anyway.
I would assume some sort of amount of people have done things that kept me safer than if they hadn't, but what that is and when or where it took place? No clue.
One of my paternal ancestors fought in the American Civil War, and was wounded in a battle in Tennessee. He was hospitalized for 6 months, and during that time, his company was involved in several other battles, with several of his friends killed in action. He survived. If he hadn't, I wouldn't be here. On Memorial Day, and at other times of the year, I think about those soldiers who fought for what they believed in, and were wounded or died in battle, as well as those who survived. As a noted American general once said "War is Hell."
My maternal grandfather was a cook in the Army. He was one of my role models, especially in the Macular Arts of woodworking, glass working (glazing, not glassblowing) , electrical work, and even plumbing. He was a master of the MacGyver Arts, creating solutions from almost nothing.
Very negativity. I was once one cyber stalked, harassed and threatened with death by a Navy guy because after I attempted to sever ties with his psycho niece. And I was abused by these people every week at work, because they thought they should get special treatment and that rules shouldn't apply to them. Angry, aggressive people.
Family is made up of vetreans. My two older brothers served and I did a tour in Afghanistan.
When SHTF the state and federal government brings in the military to handle things. I love being a marine but I do be envious sometimes of the national guard who often in called in to help in state emergencies with disaster relief.
Thank you for your service
Sure, my grandfather was in the Navy. Without him, I wouldn't be here. Sadly, he's been dead for 49.5 years.
I simply remember them and what they did along with why we have such a day. They gave us our freedom which is truly a gift bought in blood.
I am ex-military. I go to my city's National Cemetery to honor the fallen.
Thank you for your service
Not at all, I'm glad to say.
My ex-wife only became a soldier AFTER I divorced her.
I DON'T. BEING IN THE MILITARY JUST A JOB LIKE ANYTHING ELSE.
