Why compliments are seen like a cringe thing?

I explain: I heard many people insulting people who complimented them..( I’m not talking about some pervert ´´complementing’´ a lady but a genuine one. I have an exemple: I work with a Colombian woman and once a lady said to her she has a beautiful accent and I swear it was genuine I was there. I really like her accent too 🥹anyway, when the lady left my coworker was so offended…and I just didn’t get why? I have many stories like this🥹 like, am I the only one who appreciates compliments? I swear I still remember compliments I got by random strangers ( again, genuine ones not creepy) . I myself like to compliment others because i do believe it can brightens someone’s day or self esteem.. but I don’t dare anymore but I’m not proud of myself 🥹 so people, do you find it cringe if a stranger compliments your shirt, hair, personality, etc?

I sincerely like to give compliments since I like feeling I’ve made someone happy but I’m surrounded by arrogants who compliments themselves all day long but oh it’s cringe to compliment others 😩

Giving & receiving compliments sometimes make my day.

However, some compliments are actually "cringe-worthy" especially when the characters who give 'em are questionable.

Meanwhile, I also don't appreciate back-handed compliments.

if people don't find anything worth complimenting then it's better to avoid complimenting
