As a fun fact, Mexico's second president Vicente Guerrero (a hero of the war for independence) was actually of partial black descent (I believe he was described as Afro-Mestizo or Afro-Indigenous) and there is a state named after him, Guerrero, which is where he was born. He abolished slavery in Mexico. Which later was one of the reasons for revolt in Texas, which was by then under the presidency of Santa Anna. Unfortunately he (Guerrero) was executed by political rivals.

So Mexico also had an Afro descendant president long before the U. S.
