What a fantastic idea! He's got MY vote!!! 👍👍👍

What a fantastic idea! He's got MY vote!!! 👍👍👍

Before the rally even ended the LV service union BLASTED him when he announced this.
"Relief is definitely needed for tip earners, but Nevada workers are smart enough to know the difference between real solutions and wild campaign promises from a convicted felon,” said Ted Pappageorge, secretary-treasurer of the Culinary Workers Union Local 226 in Las Vegas, in a statement.
Trump is in the hospitality business himself and remains infamous for union busting and underpaying his employees."
If he had a CLUE about ANYTHING going on in this nation he would KNOW that tipped employees are FINE with taxing tips! What the tipped employees have been fighting for DECADES is to have their minimum wage the same as everybody else's ($15 versus the current poverty wage of $2.13 which is EXACTLY what I was earning in 1987 by the way)
Tip your servers people! They're COUNTING on it since they make $2.13 an hour!!!
Fantastic! Then restaurants and similar facilities will not pay, but offer jobs where the "employees" work only for tips which they get to keep. Then everybody can become wait staff. And to hell with having any tax money to pay for our defense, our parks, etc. And the best thing is we would have no money to pay GOP politicians, who can then go work at Hooters.
Just a cheap lie to get people to vote for him. You're a MAGA cult member already so LOL for pretending this is why. He doesn't have the power to change this alone and Congress won't pass it.
says anonymous! a bias democrat with zero credibility. lol

It's a scam. What he means is if Harlan Crow "tips" Clarence Thomas for a million dollars, that will not be taxed. But waitresses and strippers will still see a tax increase to make up the difference. That's what he did with his 2017 tax scam, after all..
Good idea, but we need to eliminate the income tax across the board.
Agreed... But any attack on it is good. Trump cut your taxes but his cuts expire at the end of 2025.
If the Democrats win in November you can kiss the Trump tax cuts goodbye.
You're not telling me anything. If there's anything a democrat likes it's being in your wallet.
They never saw a tax they didn't love.
Eliminate the income tax and replace it with what? A bake sale?
@DrPepper12 consumption tax.
@gorydetails
Agree with you that the tax system needs to be scrapping rebuilt from the ground.
But I'm not sure the consumption tax is the answer.
Consider a senior citizen that responsibly scrimped and saved their entire life so that they could consume more in their later years and be more comfortable.
They've already been taxed on all their savings, this savings consists of after-tax money.
Now suddenly a consumption tax is levied and they will be taxed again on that same money on everything they buy. This is clearly unfair.
I think a better answer is a flat tax. The entire tax code should be scrapped and you should be taxed a flat rate on everything you earn above a certain amount. Employers could withhold it, and you wouldn't even have to file a tax return.
People who responsibly scrimped and saved are already fucked.
A VAT tax? Its not progressive, it falls disproportionately on the poor.
Flat tax is not progressive.
@DrPepper12 I know. You like punishing successful people. It’s because you’re jealous.
No i think people should pay progresively. Is that wrong?
@drpepper12
A flat tax is progressive if it excludes tax on earnings below a certain amount.
@DrPepper12 You are jealous of people who make a lot of money and want to punish them. Plain and simple.
Let's take the simplest implementation of a flat tax. Say there was a flat tax of 15% and no one is exempt. So if you ear $25k a year you pay $3,750 in tax. If you earn $100k a year you pay $15,000 tax. If you earn $1 million a year you pay $150,000 tax.
What's wrong with that?
You could easily argue that the higher earners are still getting ripped off.
If you go to McDonalds do they ask you how much you earn and charge you more for a Big Mac because you earn more?
When you pay taxes you are buying a package of government services... military, welfare, etc. Why should someone who earns more have to pay more for the same package? And you can easily argue that the system is already progressive even if everyone paid the same amount of tax because the majority of the services go to those with less money in the form of welfare (whether it is called welfare or not).
A progressive tax does nothing but give people an incentive not to work harder.
Frankly I think a "head tax" might be the fairest tax and the best tax for the country.
That means that EVERYONE pays the same amount of tax. You take the total tax bill and divide it by the number of people in the country and that's what is owed in tax. Parents pay for each child... the same amount they pay for themselves.
If people are unable to pay because their income is too low, they accrue a debt which will have to be paid off gradually if they start earning a certain amount of income. Something like that.
Everyone gets the same Big Mac, everyone should owe the same amount.
Ok. What amount? Linked to inflation? How to phase it in? Individuals or corporate rate the same?
Yes, the more you make the more you pay in taxes. Progressive!
Dont know what you consider a lot of money but before i had GBS we were pulling in $275K
What about avoiding a hereditary monied non working class? isn't that a worthy goal? Both Roosevelts seemed to think so along with Eisenhower and Nixon.
No corporate tax because corporate tax is deceptive. It is a regressive tax. Corporations don't pay it. It is paid by consumers who pay higher prices for their products to cover the tax. And this is regressive.
"Yes, the more you make the more you pay in taxes. Progressive!"
That is not the definition of a progressive tax. A progressive tax means that higher income earners pay a higher PERCENTAGE of their income in tax than a lower income earner.
"What about avoiding a hereditary monied non working class? isn't that a worthy goal?"
No. That is theft. My money belongs to whomever I leave it to an no one else has any right to confiscate it. It is mine to do with as I please either before or after I die. I'm the one who earned it not the government.
@DrPepper12 that’s just another way of saying you’re jealous of rich people.
"Ok. What amount?"
Each year each person pays the annual government expenditures divided by the number of people in the country.
"Linked to inflation?"
No. And there must be a balanced budget. No deficit spending.
"How to phase it in?"
Phase it in in a fairy tale because government is hopelessly corrupt and likes the corrupt tax system just the way it is, unintelligible, authoritarian, corrupt and able to allow them to fritter away the American taxpayers hard earned money on waste, fraud and corruption. It is the primary tool of government oppression and power over the governed. They will never give up that power.
You would destroy the middle class and create a demographic time bomb.
No corporate tax AND a hereditary wealthy class? Brilliant! The heritage foundation would LOVE to hear more about it for Project 2025!!
Ooookkkkaaaayyyy
@DrPepper12 Nothing is funnier than someone proposing. “Hey let’s make goods cheaper and allow people to keep their paycheck” and you thieves saying “It will hurt poor people”
I cannot figure out DrPepper12's political persuasion. I've noticed this for a long time.
He seems to give likes to most of my political posts on GaG, which are decidedly conservative, yet when he writes his own comments they seem to be diametrically opposed.
This tax discussion is a perfect example. He argues for a socialist tax system, which is the opposite of the tax system I support.
I have not been able to figure out where he stands politically. It's very strange.
Facts are facts. Consumption taxes are paid by the poor.
Likes do not equal endorsement
Flaming liberal here
It took a bit but "SOCIALISM" scare word came out.
@DrPepper12 good. The poor should pay taxes. Everyone should have skin in the game.
Completely agree @gorydetails.
One of the main problems in the country today is that we have those who pay and those who take. That is the recipe for the downfall of the country. Everyone needs to have a stake in the game.
For people on welfare that means that all able-bodied people should have to perform some kind of public service jobs, preferably replacing some of the jobs that taxpayers have to pay for so that it reduces other people's taxes.
Yes. They should and DO! Sales tax, property tax, school tax, etc. If your income is below the already obscene "poverty level" do you really want them paying the same taxes as corps or Space Nazi Musk
If they are receiving welfare their tax should be paid in work.
@DrPepper12 boy, you’re really highlighting how we are taxed to death.
Not even close. Our yax ratex are too low for $500K and above.
@DrPepper12 you are insane.
Why do you oppose a progressive income tax like GOP POTUS Eisenhower had?
The more you tax something the less of it is produced. So why are you so obsessed with taxing success?
It is successful wealthy people who create the jobs and prosperity for everyone else.
Why are you so anxious to discourage that success?
Because hereditary wealth is an anthema to a Republic?
How?
@DrPepper12 Taking things from someone because you decided how much wealth they should have is an anathema to a free society.
That's what's behind these little wanna-be dictators policies. They think they are the ones who should be making decisions for everyone else and everyone else must abide. They have a Napoleon complex.
They are jealous of other people's success. So rather than do self reflection on their choices, they concoct this idea that it's due to some outside "oppression". So like a toddler with a smaller piece of cake than their sibling, it's "unfair" so it needs to be made "fair" by daddy government.
It's called envy politics and you are exactly right. They have all kinds of mental issues and self-esteem problems and need to find others to blame because they cannot admit their own failure.
good idea. same as he led negotiations for the 2016 abortion law that was passed.
I think that perhaps he doesn't understand that he's not running for Congress, and as such would have no power to make such a law.
You guys are taxing tips?
Democrats tax *EVERYTHING*
As President Ronald Reagan so correctly said of Democrats, they never saw a tax they didn't love.
"The Democrat's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it." -- President Ronald Reagan
Yes tips are taxed in the states
Hows that trickle down working for you? The unborn already owe $23K pp thanks to what st Ronnie started. He said he'd "spend the soviets into the ground" in arms race and look where we are now. MANY historians agree the USSR would have collapsed on its own and didn't need a shove from reagan.
In Germany tips are tips as its the little bit extra just for yourself. But we also pay our service staff a half decent almost liveable wage in the first place.
In America USA it's "Fuck You" Darwinian capitalism run by the gerontological oligarchy. Oh, im a bad American for telling the truth in these trumpian times... Fuck him too!
