Patriotism, or at least nationalism, is kind of a low-IQ, goon-brained thing, a lot of the time. That’s not specific to America, but not exclusive of it, either.
A lot of the game of politics is saying things to appeal to people, establishing narratives, and it isn’t always true, especially in recent years. Like Trump will dodge the draft, tell you avoiding STDs was his Vietnam, and disrespect a very honorable man and TRUE patriot, John McCain, for being a POW. This bum will turn right the fuck around and hug an American flag for the crowd at his rallies. Guy is an obvious and absolute joke, ESPECIALLY if you’re patriotic/nationalistic. Holy smokes, you guys, WAKE UP😂😂😂😂😂😂 I’m more shocked that people are dumb enough to fall for this than I’m objecting to the politics of it all, it’s just absolutely insane even in a vacuum with all else being equal. A very, very sad commentary on the intelligence and critical thinking abilities of the average American.
Anyway, one of these narratives the right wing has tried to establish is that any opinion other than “everything in America is just PERFECT👌“ means that you “hate your country”, which is preposterous on its face. Conservatives have tried to co-opt shit like patriotism, or military support, or having good morals…. all these things that they absolutely do not own, they’re just extremely performative about these things in the very attempt to convince people that the opposite must be true of liberals, and it’s frankly fucking ridiculous. They even completely hijacked and changed the definition of “woke” to use to their benefit. Guaranteed most people saying “woke” these days don’t know what it’s really supposed to mean, and they just want a society that says “Straight white guys FIRST, straight white ladies second…. the rest of you can battle for the bottom, but we’ll be nicer to you if you champion straight white American culture and try to be like us.” Just nutty shit, man, I can’t wrap my head around it.
So the right tries to enlist their mouth-breathingest supporters to basically adopt the rabid sports fan mentality that leads to brawls in stadiums with people in opposing jerseys. “USA #1, fuck everybody else!” Holy FUCK🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️😂😂😂 You ask these people to engage in any sort of debate, or even ask them ONE follow-up question about why they hold their position, and almost none of them can do it. These are uninformed idiots caught up on a hype train, addicted to a “feeling” Trump gives them, but no real substance. “Voting for Trump will make everything better and all my problems will disappear!” Yikes.
So, one of the major points of sale for these guys is trying to make it seem like you just despise the country you live in, or they don’t say it so many words, but basically insinuate that white people will lose everything if we America a better place for others. Like the majority of white MAGA voters…. they may or may not spell it out for you…. but the underlying mood seems to be “uhhhh, America is supposed to be “white people first”, so let’s not do anything to make life easier for anyone else.”
Not saying it’s necessarily a concerted effort to hold anyone down, but more a fear of letting them step up. And that’s just indefensibly fucked up, but it’s one of those things that’s easily cloaked in “but you can’t PROVE what I’m really thinking, and I can just lie and say it’s some other reasoning involved”, almost taunting you that we can’t read and expose their true thoughts.
Anyway, I’m going tangential on y’all, my bad😂 But my overall point is that the right, for all they hammer the left for it, are VERY big on “virtue signaling.” Waving flags and pounding your chest and putting bumper stickers on your car about how much you love America, how much you support the troops, how much you love Jesus, how much you care about unborn fetuses, how much you respect the flag…. ALL OF THESE THINGS, when done publicly or performatively, residing anywhere besides inside your own heart and mind, is VERY MUCH virtue signaling. The bigger the flag flying off the back of your pickup truck is, the bigger the virtue signaler you are.
So that does seem to be a current phenomenon, conservatives just absolutely draping themselves in flags and pro-America merch, and I think on the left, it’s had a cooling effect where you’re less likely to wear that stuff for fear of coming off to others as a conservative. I don’t think anyone’s love of their country, whether at a rational or irrational level, has wavered, one side has just really try to hijack the imagery and the whole concept, kind of as a conversation-stopper when uncomfortable topics come up, they can quickly spin any critique of our society or government into “oh, so you just hate America.”, and hit you with elementary school level “LoVe iT oR LeAvE iT” retorts, it’s legitimately like arguing with small children sometimes, so it’s so hard to have real discourse nowadays🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
yes exactly. Vote FELON in November!
They’re probably all felons, Coach. Sad state of affairs😂😂😂
Power is one hell of a drug! 100%
Bullseye 🎯
"If fascism comes, he added, it will not be identified with any "shirt" movement, nor with an "insignia," but it will probably be "wrapped up in the American flag and heralded as a plea for liberty and preservation of the constitution."" James Waterman Wise, Jr., 1936

"“Straight white guys FIRST, straight white ladies second…. the rest of you can battle for the bottom, but we’ll be nicer to you if you champion straight white American culture and try to be like us."
"America is supposed to be “white people first”, so let’s not do anything to make life easier for anyone else.”
What's wrong with that? I never see minorities worrying about White people. Seems completely rational to me to lookout for the best interests of your own people.
But everything else you said, I couldn't agree with more. Though you can argue people like Trump and Ted Nugent dodged the draft, because the war wasn't really fighting for America's interests.
But yes, I don't know how anyone can believe Trump gives a shit about Americans, when he sold weapons to Saudi Arabia.
The dumb fuck literally wanted to blow up Persepolis, because Iran kills and mains our SOLDIERS, while Saudi Arabia was responsible for killing American CIVILIANS, and Trump is sucking their circumcised dicks! Trump's a piece of shit and a hypocrite!
And yeah, ulta- Conservatives are so ignorant about the world outside their little blue collar bubble and they think any country that isn't the US is a sithole. When you show them pictures of homeless camps, they say, "That's only Commiefornia", yet they generalize entire other countries as shitholes. And yes, I swear if the American flag had a pussy, Conservatives would fuck that thing more than their wives. I bet if there was a fire, Conservatives would protect the flag over their own wives. The crazy thing is, there are Conservatives who would actually destroy your life for putting your own life over a piece of fabric that represents gun violence and faggotry. And thats what it represents and you have to be incredibly naiive and ignorant to believe otherwise.
You'll probably be surprised to hear that I'm a Conservative myself, but I'm a moderate Conservative. I support many Conservative values, but I'm not a nationalist soldier lover like those radical Conservatives, and I do not want to be associated with those people.
Some girl actually told me I can't be a Conservative 'cuz I'm not a prude when it comes to sexual stuff
@KostasKouvalis Some girl told you? Are you sure it's a her because the left loves to cut off genitals now of little boys.
It was that LazerBeam girl.
@KostasKouvalis Well I am just being sarcastic lol
Yeah, I can't read those comments because @KostasKouvalis has blocked me.
But, no, "YES WE CAN" is a positive, uplifting hope for the future. MAGA is item one, Mythic past, in this list: Of these ten tactics of fascism, how many can you spot happening today? ↗
@goaded You do realize that many people who wear that hat see it as uplifting and positive right? no matter what person or people puts a negative spin on it that is not how people view it. They want better gas prices, lower housing and a better life... just because the fringe left says its something doesn't mean it is.
They probably do, but they're missing the point that it's saying America isn't great now. At what point in history do you think they think it lost its greatness?
America was great when only landowners could vote?
America was great before the civil war?
America was great before women could vote?
America was great before the great depression?
America was great before WWII?
America was great before the 1960's Civil Rights Acts?
America was great before Reagan busted the unions?
America was great before Clinton reversed the deficit?
America was great before Bush started the Afghan war?
America was great before Bush started the Iraq war?
America was great before Obama was elected president?
Incidentally, gas prices in the US were higher than today just before Obama's election.

Coach, to your point to @goaded about MAGA vs Yes We Can…. I understand what you’re trying to say, but I think “MAGA” comes with an unintentional (hopefully) blind spot for some, like they’re perceiving everything from a white, (annoying liberal buzzword incoming…😂) “hetero-normative” perspective, that would create a social climate that might be good for you and I, but leaves other demographics at a disadvantage…. and no decent society should have people at a disadvantage for not being white, not being straight, and in some cases, not being a man.
youtube.com/shorts/t5z740jeaEM?si=ODriuZTPpRQkjoNq
This kind of encapsulates everything I’m talking about. We’ve just departed from rational and realistic conversation…
https://youtu.be/JfxPxN_4dnU?si=5gtn_n4seYwmlmfJ
@WhiteSteve It was never unintentional... no matter what the hat said some group would of made into a negative. So at this point what does it matter.
@KostasKouvalis Well, the issue for me is that America isn’t (or at least SHOULDN’T be) primarily-white, by our own design. The reason minorities don’t worry about white people is BECAUSE they’re minorities, and typically, majorities don’t require concern or “looking out for”, everything as is is already fairly suitable, or the most suitable of everyone’s situation. We don’t really have good examples of modern societies with white minorities needing “looking out for” by races or ethnicities, because the course of human history hasn’t really lent itself to it. Europeans were colonizers, they were the ones forcefully inserting themselves into OTHER societies, in an (often successful) attempt to supplant the incumbent society native to the region in question. So, unsurprisingly, Europeans or their descendants in those societies aren’t going to be looked at favorably, because colonization is kind of just inherently fucked up, I don’t view that as really debatable. So those societies that have a white minority, like say, South Africa…. the white people came in and fucked shit up for native South Africans, and even today aren’t exactly enlightened in their attitudes towards them. Anywhere white people are the minority, you could make a strong argument that said white people have no legitimate claim to the area, historically. And we should just be better than this as humans, by identifying and categorizing and judging others for whatever their culture happens to be. Wild to me that none of us can kind our own business enough for differing cultures to still live side by side. That’s on us, as humans, we bear the blame for that, all of us, every culture.
I think I’m confused, haha. I’m saying the blind spot I feel MAGA folks often have is what I hope is an unintentional phenomenon, because it would be pretty shitty to just willfully ignore plights of other fellow Americans who just may not happen to look or operate the same way as you and me.
I for sure agree that the hat would be spun to mean something nefarious, regardless, that’s the unfortunate nature of political discourse these days.
But what I’m trying to point out is that I think a lot of MAGA heads are just like “What? I want cheap gas and lower taxes, what’s the problem?”, but it runs deeper than that, and whether they realize that or not, I see it on display.
For me…I’m a guy who’s willing to live in third-world conditions so long as we’re being universally decent to everyone. The quality of my individual existence on the planet isn’t the issue, my ride could end at any moment, so I can’t build the world to be set up for MY needs, specifically. It’s just all of us here, together, and we need to prioritize universal human decency over individual or even collective prosperity.
And beyond all that, even if you’re not to the extreme I am, the reality of the situation is that America is very multi-cultural, maybe not in Small Town, USA where a lot of these folks come from (adding to the blind spot), but overall, America is what America is.
So I think the issue when we harken back to supposedly better times, like from that Daily Show interview clip I posted, these people are focused on one or two aspects of this supposed era of greatness, and it seems like these people want to emulate that SOCIAL era, which was anything BUT great, UNLESS you were a straight white man.
Some folks maybe approach it the right way, but many of them seem to slough off or even endorse the way some of our demographics were treated in those days. They just see reruns of Leave It To Beaver and say “that’s what I want! Working a comfortable 9-5 that pays enough for a wife and a couple kids, and a dog, and a modest suburban home with a picket fence that you can pull up to in your new 1956 Bel-Air, and still have enough left over for a summer vacation to The Grand Canyon.” But that wasn’t everyone’s reality, and to be honest, it’d go a long way for me if I saw more of that attitude but wanting it for EVERYONE, not viewing people not like us as a roadblock to that lifestyle.
I don’t believe it’s all race/ethnicity-based, I’m sure a black guy in MAGA gear would be welcomed with open arms, but it’s with the mood of “you’re one of the good ones.” If they’re not perceived as “one of the good ones”, see how they talk about them. I WANT for it to be foolish to be making racial/ethnic assumptions about politics, I really do, I want to be beyond all that…. but what I’m seeing and hearing from people tells me we aren’t there yet, and “acceptance of differences” is politically transactional.
"But what I’m trying to point out is that I think a lot of MAGA heads are just like “What? I want cheap gas and lower taxes, what’s the problem?”, but it runs deeper than that, and whether they realize that or not, I see it on display." They are too busy working two jobs and trying to afford things. Sorry they aren't hip to whatever is running deeper.
Yeah, man, I get it, shit is hard out here getting by. And that definitely needs to be addressed. I don’t think we’re pointing the finger in the right directions though. I feel like Reagan set us up for short-term gain and long-term loss, as far as worker vs corporations go. The corporations are the villains, in my eyes. The 80s gave them way too long of a leash, and they own us now. THAT’S what needs to be curtailed. I just can’t listen to CEOs crying poor because they “only”made a quarter-billion last year, down from the usual $300M. Get the FUCK outta here, haha. These guys could be making $50M and be doing GREAT, and all that remaining hundreds of millions would “trickle down” like they said it would….. but we fucked up in assuming that people who are in the very line of work they’re in BECAUSE of their addiction to money we’re going to share that with us in any reasonably equal fashion. Like Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, Tim Cook at Apple, and the Walton family of Walmart fame, plus Warren Buffett, wildly rich just for correctly predicting what businesses to invest in, not curing cancer or Alzheimer’s or anything like…. all of these people could literally solve homelessness and hunger in America, but they just don’t want to. They’re just self-congratulatory of their own success with no regard for the human condition, and therein really lies the problem. I’m sure most of them do some sort of bullshit charitable donation, but nothing of real broad substance, they’d rather joyride on spaceships or sail around on $80M yachts or fly to Epstein Island to fuck children.
But instead we’re demonizing broke ass migrants trying to escape here for safety, or lamenting the crime rate in Chicago, when you know full well it’s mostly gangsters shooting other gangsters and doesn’t impact anyone outside of that lifestyle, other than the old classic “kid killed by a stray bullet” anecdote, which can happen, but we’re kidding ourselves to think that’s the usual outcome. Not saying there aren’t issues within these things that can use some addressing, but when it gets sold to the people by a currently very dishonest right wing media machine as the primary problems of America, we’re missing the big picture of us all being corporate slaves, and slavery doesn’t end until we stop blindly fellating every person who opens a business. I’m for sure more sympathetic to mom & pop operations, but even the last company I worked for, fair-sized but certainly not a behemoth, maybe like six regional branches, that was run by an absolute piece of shit who would nickel and dime not only the employees but the CUSTOMERS. And he was doing just fine, I’ve seen his house. Rich people never being satisfied with their level of “rich” is one of the biggest driving forces behind American economic problems, not a Venezuelan refugee who we’re being told is simultaneously going to take your job and also be on welfare on the taxpayers’ dime.
I hear ya man. Appreciate the comments as always.
I think we’re all getting a little fatigued here😂
Good talk, Coach🤝
People should have the right to privatize their own money
Yes and it's a shame. But what really get to me is that wearing the flag on anything but a uniform is highly disrespectful. Yet so many people who say they "love the flag" are using it as clothing.
4 U. S. Code § 8 - Respect for flag
(d) The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. It should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but always allowed to fall free. Bunting of blue, white, and red, always arranged with the blue above, the white in the middle, and the red below, should be used for covering a speaker’s desk, draping the front of the platform, and for decoration in general.
That's only a recent phenomenon (2016ff). In years prior many people put flags out because they had soldiers (or veterans) in the family or were traditionalists living in "colonial" areas. The flag is supposed to be a symbol of national pride, not a marker for who one is voting for.
Pretty sad really when a nations flag is hijacked by one side
Making people take pledges is what dictators do
Thank you, Poppy.
@KostasKouvalis What's wrong is the list of countries that allowed that is short since they don't last long but. Go to any other country on earth and disrespect their flag and see what happens to you. What's also wrong is when you claim somebody "hijacked" the flag as if they don't have a right to be patriotic. Give me a break.
@KostasKouvalis Same reason people live in a country where they hate the flag... I guess it's like people who are rude to strangers. They've never been punched in the mouth, is all. The days when people were held accountable for their words & actions will return one day.
The fact remains that when a political party adapts the flag as a symbol they are stating if you don't support us then you're against your country.
Yeah, Republicans have the American flag, Democrats have the Rainbow flag. This is a fact.
No it is not a fact. Its stating that only republicans are true Americans and all democrats are gay. This is how genocides begin.
@purplepoppy "The fact remains that when a political party adapts the flag as a symbol they are stating if you don't support us then you're against your country." Every party flies the US flag so I don't know what you're on about with this comment. I have also never heard anyone claim that a politician shouldn't have the US flag on stage with them but then, I don't hang out with hard core america hating types so maybe that's why.
@KostasKouvalis Exclusively? No. Let me know when Biden does a speech with a rainbow flag on the dais with him... or only rainbow flags.

I will never feel ashamed for loving my country!
That's false. A lot of people of all political stripes fly the US flag. In case you didn't notice, the White House flies the US flag.
When people fly these flags, you know who they are voting for:

And, of course, this flag...
The Dukes of Hazzard was a great show! Agree 💯
Flying the flag doesn't reveal anything... other than you are patriotic.
There's an unconfirmed rumor that the Biden home has a flag flying.
Flying a countries flag is a sign of Patriotism and Nationalism which doesn't serve new comers and therefore they vote in favor of it's destruction. They want to replace the culture and demographic's with what is sacred to them which is there people and culture.
Yes I have. It's because the opponents of President Trump are the opponents of America. They want to "fundamentally transform" it. They hate this country and they despise the flag.
That's why I fly the flag every single day so it sticking right in their face.
I'm not even a US citizen, not a patriot and I'm rooting for Trump lol
👍
A vote for President Trump is a vote for freedom.
I had a 20+ year career fighting for our country under the flag. Mr Bonespurs marched a long time just fine at the academy, then had his father pay a doctor for a deferment from serving America because he couldn't march. (part of a long line of lies from the family). So while many of us showed our love of country, Trump stands on a podium with his hands wrapped around a flag, fondling it.
yes one side believes in the nation and the other side believes there should be no nation it seems.
the flag still stands for freedom, and they can't take that awayyyyyy. :D
Yes, it's sad seeing the political left villainize the flag; saying it represents everything evil, while the exact opposite is true. It's kind of like holy water to a demon. The evil left's skin actually burns if they come in contact with the American flag.
I noticed that when I lived in the US for 10 years, I found it strange as in the UK your politics are usually never discussed (with the exception of the 'talking heads' on TV), it is regarded as between you and the ballot box.
I fly the American flag every day. I started doing it since I bought my house 30 years ago, way before trump even thought about running. Nobody knows who I'm voting for and I will never tell anyone
sad, that the flag is interpreted as bad nationalism so people stop flag and lose all symbols of west civilization
Nationalism is only bad to those who want to change the country.
I am not going to say anything about my voting choices because that's private. But, I do fly the American flag in front of my home.
@Dongie I don't follow. What do you mean?
@Dongie I'm a woman and I must remain mysterious... :D I do my best to be nice! There are times, though...
@Dongie You're fine! Thanks for clarifying.
I have a flag on my front porch and a TRUMP 2024 sign on my front lawn to remove all doubt.
@Red_Arrow hahahhaaha funny.😂😂😂
What I noticed is I don't think this was true 5 years ago but it is now.
Pretty sad, isn't it. It's no secret that many liberal Americans overtly hate America, and even the ones who don't are afraid they'll be judged for flying anything but a rainbow flag. What a fucked up bunch.
I saw that meme on utoob. It is a pretty solid indicator, strangely enough.
I’ve seen both liberal and conservative neighbors fly the flag, so……
That tells all u need to know about the rogue nation we have running our country.
I noticed that both sides try to sell lies to people so they can get more supporters to stay in power.
No. Around here it is 50/50 either a patriot or a trump supporter.
Voting for Maga 😂
I have no idea why people think it is evil to put the needs of your home country above others. If you want to help others, you need to make sure your own country is stable first.
Sure. They're voting for Americans that love their country.
Yes it's because the left hates America. America should hate them, too.
Here I thought it signaled patriotism for the USA and it's Constitution?
I fly a flag of a donut. Who the hell am I voting for
Hadn't thought about it?
Yes, Donald Trump
Yes I'm voting for America
Not that I know.
