How did the USA manage to integrate the different cultures of the different immigrants who came to the USA?

It didn't have to. It was ALWAYS a bit integrated.
This is because of multiple factors...
This about New York is very important because the American Founding Fathers saw how effective New York was as a multicultural community that it motivated them when they established the United States and wrote the Bill of Rights. They knew religion was a major problem and source for violence and that the various colonies were established on religious grounds, so the US was created to be a secular nation. That we are a "nation of laws and not men" so it doesn't matter who you are or what God (s) you worship or how; what matters is the law and that people are treated equally under the law.
This that I highlighted is very important because it is something that is taught. It is almost like a religious commandment here. And so, despite any bigotry or racism we may have, ultimately, we want the law to treat us all equally because, deep down inside, we all know that we are going to be a minority in something and we don't want to be abused by the majority.
What a great reply! TY!!
We use to have strong cultural pressure to conform and tended to only permit immigrants from culturally more compatible origins in any significant numbers to make that easier.
Thanks to people campaigning for "multiculturalism" and "diversity" we are not nearly so good at this which is why we are now a lot more divided with forign flags now flying over regions. Even still large sections of the federation reject theses ideas and alien cultures are more integrated as a result.
Prosperity and possibility of expansion. Multiculti works when there are enough resources to share, if there is a economical or cultural decrease multiculturalism becomes one of the most toxic elements in a society and leads always to separatism or genocide of some minorities.
Basically by lots of flag waving and forcing kids to take the pledge each day. Without a shared history or culture to bind them they had to rely on creating a cult like society through propaganda and enforced patriotism.
Although we might agree that the forced Post-civil war "pledge of allegiance" was as unconstitutional as it is untrue to our originating propose of goverment by consent of the governed.
We do in fact have a history which to some extend is share with your country who's political developments informed and defined our own until 1776.
Wrong. Read my answer above.

The "USA" didn't do anything to integrate cultures. In fact, it often fostered separating them. Any integration that did take place happened locally and out of necessity. You can argue that the Federal government did pass laws to ban discrimination, segregation and force integration at times, but many states passed their own laws allowing them.
There was a time when co-existence amongst many cultures was more prevalent, especially in larger cities, but I believe that was out of pure necessity and economics.
It is easier to integrate when there are similarities - race, culture, religion, history. The US was founded by the British. German immigrants were different but had enough in common. Italians and Eastern Europeans much more difficult, their religion and culture is different etc.
Hispanics and blacks are not really compatible with us. This is why the discrimination etc labels get thrown around because people don’t really understand this concept.
Arabs are also incompatible.
East Asians do better than many at integrating, particularly if they convert to Christianity because they are smart and will adapt. They also are not troublemakers.
Other Asians it’s harder because their culture/religion/race is all different. Example: Indians
Despite what the brainwashers will tell you, places do best when they are homogenous. Lower crime, less friction, less disagreements. We just won’t have as many ethnic restaurants - that’s literally it.
I don't have the the time or crayons to explain this to you but we live in a heterogenous nation. This isn't Sweden or Japan. Tolerance is NECESSARY not optional.
@DrPepper12 I never said the U. S. was homogenous. But it used to be very homogenous and I don’t have the “crayons” to explain to people like you that this wasn’t an accident. As someone who has spent years studying this subject, diversity has literally torn the country apart. Only the very dull or those with a personal gain actually believe diversity is our strength.
That is why the knaves will blame Donald Trump for divisiveness without realizing the makeup of the country has changed. Nonetheless, places where whites are the supermajority (90%+) are the best places to live — whether in the U. S. or Europe. They are also happy places.
I know this hurts your feelings but places where whites are not the majority — large swathes of the South, California, most large cities, etc are miserable. I know, they are still better than Africa so they seem quite nice to you, but anyone with a memory can remember when not all of our large cities were urban jungles. People can remember 25 years ago before Europe had taken in millions of Arabs and Africans and how much better life was.
I really fear for the future when crime becomes even worse, the standard of living plummets and China takes over as a superpower and how the blame will be framed. Oh, it was Donald Trump or the Republicans or Conservatives that did it - not realizing that the new superpower didn’t get there people of LGBTQ bull$h¡t or diversity.
What most of the lemmings cannot fathom is who or what would push such poisonous doctrines like diversity, equality and democracy. They are an anathema to a free country.
u. s. succeeded at interactions due to capitalism style, everyone needed everyone despite "he irish " in contrast to Europe every country hated their neighbor, until e. u. tried unifying money currency... but at first smart, it stretched beyond money so brits exited left , but u. s. succeeded as above due to capitalism style.
The Constitution and the importance of drumroll please - not even American myself just answering from guessing - and assuming yes the dreaded assumption man I am - lol I assume - lol would be the Democrats. The Constitution and the Democrats are what have kept America vibrant for since the 1960s :)
@paledreams
Things have generally been going downhill since the 1960's in terms of integration and national unity. Primarily because of decorators and the abandonment of the Constitution in the 1960s and decades prior.
Look at the decades prior to the effects of theses changes in the 1940s if you want to see how well we did this historically in theses areas.
There is no comparison between today and then.
@monoprise I could say similarly Australia is so so however man, as long as I've got my Australian Constitution and my Monarchy and my English language and metric system lol so I don't have to learn something new , - those main things are all anyone should care about - consistency and stability lol - now if Australia ever wanted a republic or wanted to change languages or become a dual bilingual whatever or change the metrics again , I'd be a little saddened and also a little annoyed about no longer be able to be lazy aka - stability. Ah well ; you've got many things to like about modern America man. After all - your constitution still exists, as does mine. And likewise, the King nowadays keeps me happy as a dashboard decoration like fellow of far away, just like his elderly queen before him :)
Just embrace man, the Democrats and the Constitution sure for you over there, is a happier society than one with cost cutting Republicans lol 😆😆😆
Anyways, whatever. I'll meanwhile keep enjoying my King, Country and Language :) 👑👀
Expediency, tolerance and urbanization. Its amazing what can happen when you have no choice. Im from NY so everyday is a kaleidescope of humanity in every beautiful, wonderful detail and difference. It's this exposure that makes many NYers so tolerant & liberal - we dont have a choice and we learn to accept and then enjoy and then celebrate the daily pageant. I wouldn't have it any other way!!
@DrPepper12 Yes New York is a highly successful example of leftism (not liberalism) and "tolerance"... We will believe that when new Yorker's start believing that and stop leaving.
People are leaving cuz it's too expensive, not because it's too cosmopolitan or tolerant!!
I was there in July of 08, working on the Millinnial pipeline. I stayed at a mountain (they called it) RV camp. It was the highlight of my life. I visited New York City. It was just like being in a movie. We did everything we could, including riding the fairy in front of the Statue and buying fake Rolexs, to riding the subway.
@DrPepper12 AMEN!
@Dongie hope you enjoyed the big apple that the stones described as "Shattered"
That's what America is all about. That's the lure of freedom. It's more common than it was in the 1800s after we whipped the British but good for the second time in 30 years. And naturally the best athletes stand out. Look at Jim Thorpe, Jesse Owen's, Mark Spitz.
Jesse Owens, whom white America tossed aside like used Kleenex after his four Gold Medals in 1936. Mr. Owens became another "N" word until the 1950's, when America needed him to at least pretend it was beginning to integrate when it wasn't.
You should also know the aftermath of the '36 Berlin Games for Jesse Owens and the other African American participants.
They never integrated them just put them in different "quartier", people are extremely isolated in America seem they never integrate and just stay in their immigrant quartier.
I think an interesting sub question is if the US has managed to integrate Islam immigrants and if so HOW?
Blocked cya 😞
@DrPepper12 It s pretty normal for immigrant waves to congregate in areas as it becomes culturally similar and shops selling traditional items open. In one area of my city many second and third generation Greeks can't speak English well but the 4th generation has got there.
No big deal. It becomes like visiting another country and has it's charms.
Often an immigrant wave brings a degree of lawless. Not so charming but it settles down relatively quickly for the most part.
For us (Australia) it does seem the second generation of Islam immigrants isn't integrating as well and both dealing themselves out of the mainstream but at the same time resenting not getting mainstream benefits. This more a lack of economic integration than anything.
It was distressing to see in Muslim enclaves, street parties celebrating that people had been killed.
I am interested what the US experience has been. You clearly have enclaves as we do but integration in other ways?
Yes!! NYC is both a melting pot AND a salad bowl. Its truly an exemplar for humanity. We are SO "who gives a shit?" that nothing is remarkable. It just IS. I ❤️ it!!
When there is no own culture - 'you' just gather the habits of those who turn up :D
Et Voilà - for a while it will work.
But actually... does it?
America promised opportunity that no other country offered. All my grandparents were immigrants. They brought skills and culture from their homelands and added to this country.
For European immigrants, they ended up having sex with each other a lot and created something we just call “white” now.
You can’t find work here in the US or function in everyday society if you don’t speak English. Also, people want to assimilate and not stick out like sore thumbs. That’s the way it’s always been, and still is today
They really are not integrated. They just stopped trying to kill each other. Mostly.
What cosmopolitan enclave do you hail from with that POV?
I tried to come to the USA. I didn't win green card lottery. I found jobs but companies rejected me because i dont have Social Security number.
everyone likes tacos...
Through immigration control
They didn't, it just kind of happened.
