What's a pet peeve you have?

One of mine is when someone touches the thermostat in my house. I keep it at 70 degrees. It's different, in that it can only cool or heat, one or the other at a time.

So if you set it to 72 degrees, I will allow the temperature to keep climbing, indefinitely, which it will, this is Texas, and some idiot thought it was a good idea to make the roads out of white concrete, which sun rays bounce off of, projecting in every direction like a mirror.

So when one of my roommates starts setting it higher, I wake up soaked in sweat, because it's 90 degrees, because some idiot didn't set it to "cool" when they increased the temperature.

70 degrees is perfect for me, and I don't take kindly to some idiot setting the temperature to 69. But what really gets me in a "WHAT IS THAT? HAAAAEH, WHAT IS THAT!!!" Mood is when someone sets the temperature higher, and cooks us all in that heat. A replacement would cost $14,000. And it's only a matter of time before that would break down, and set me back another $4,000 to repair it. I have to make due with what I have, but I sure to get mad when someone sets it high, and doesn't follow my instructions, and bakes us all in the house. What's a pet peeve of yours?

Americans using the fuckin Fahrenheit scale. Especially when they don't even bother specifying and just say the number.

Most standard measuring systems have sensible fixed reference points. The Fahrenheit scale was made to use average human body temperature as its 100 degree mark, except the guy got it wrong... so the scale doesn't even have a fixed reference point any more, and the degrees don't mean anything. It is like a house built on quicksand.

So your "70 degrees" in any sane temperature measurement scale would be massively fatal. 70*C would cook you alive. 70K and you'd be frozen solid within seconds. And Yanks just throw these stupid numbers around like they're supposed to make any sort of sense.

I don't like Americanisms in general, but the Fahrenheit thing is one of the really big ones.
