Why are Dems terrified of private schools getting public funds?

I'm not qualified to teach, but there are some sharp folks on here that are. Parents should be given vouchers for every child. Let them spend their vouchers how they want. If they want to spend their vouchers at public zoos, then let them. If parents would prefer their kids to learn STEM classes, VS pronouns, then let them.

Why is there a threat? After Covid, some Seattle public schools had to close. Why? Because the kids wouldn't go back to the zoos. The schools were funded per the amount of students. The teachers were canned. lol

It has to become a transportable voucher system. As you say if parents want in depth tuition on pronouns for their child let them use it at a school that does give that. If they want STEM education then the same.

Sadly opposition is more based on public school teachers not wanting to face a market based system.

It certainly was a big game changer if you have the self discipline. I'm not convinced 5 yo's do :). So I see a reason for schools. Not against home schooling. This debate has been going on for a long time. In my high school civics class we did a mock legislature thing. Each group took on a couple of different issues. Public funding of private schools was the issue my group did. While I understood the argument on both sides, I favored funding the students, not the school. Even if the private schools directly received that money, it was still allocated on a student by student basis.

At that time we did not have all the private schools like we do now. It was mostly about public schools vs parochial schools, which mostly meant Catholic schools.

Indoctrination of kids was not an issue then. Schools were still pretty sane. It was strictly a funding issue - should private schools be funded or not. I don't remember it being a Democrat or Republican thing. Nor was it a liberal vs conservative thing. Virtually all of us were liberal then. Yet there were still people on both sides of this issue.

I think the argument now is because funding private schools means less money for public schools. Which in turn means that the schools with the most need of money get less. This is the same thing that happens with standardized testing, or least that's what it means in my state. The under-performing schools receive less money - in theory giving the administrators more incentive to improve.

It's because of the public school teachers unions! They donate an insane amount of money to the Democratic Party! Also private schools pay a lot more than public schools, and the teachers are 100% accountable! In a public school when half the kids in a class fail, it's “obviously because the students were unruly and did not pay attention”. In my private school, if a 25% of the students in the class failed, it was because the teacher was a shitty teacher and they were usually fired before school returned in January! (I'm sure they went right back to teaching in public schools where the union could prevent them from EVER being fired!).

Unfortunately, in MANY cases you are absolutely right! But I also honesty think that MOST parents are working so much just to make ends meet, especially in this economy, that they don’t have time to even check on the most cursory things about what's going on at their kid’s school! At MY high school, parent/teacher conferences were MANDATORY! The parent (s) were required to attend as a condition for going to that school. They would do them via Facetime or Google Meet, if absolutely necessary, but if you missed more than a certain number within the entire four years, your child was withdrawn from school at the end of THAT semester! until the meeting occurred! (so the parents had MORE than enough time to schedule a meeting). I just wish parents would get more involved in their child’s education!

I was an administrator in a K-12 school system and currently work as a adjunct professor. The public school system is a liberal indoctrination system. The per pupil expenditure is much more than other industrialized country yet student test scores rank at the bottom. I assign a term paper in some of the courses I teach and the majority of students cannot write at a 6th grade level. I do not blame the students. I blame the failed school system.

If parents could get a voucher for the per pupil expenditure that they pay taxes towards , many could afford to sent their students to private school or maybe home school them. Unless the public schools can improve and stop being an embarrassment they will cease to exist.

Dept. of Education was created by a dem led government in 1979.

Education and results have gone DOWN since then.

Education is funded and controlled from D. C. when the communities controlled it pryor.

It's kind of understandable, if you think about it. How many other areas of life do we just assume that someone knows better than we do, simply because they have more experience than we do in that subject, or they have some credential that we don't?

I call a washing machine repairman because I assume he knows more about my washing machine than I do. If you don't know anything about education, and you don't have time to homeschool your kids, why wouldn't you assume that the people who educate kids all day know best how to educate your kids?

In the BLUE STATE of NEW YORK, public schools are paid.75 per student every day of attendance. They don't want to lose that money to private schools. Besides that, the Public Schools in New York indoctrinate children, while charter schools teach the children math reading, writing, and real not made up history we all know the Democrats love rewritten history!
