Are a legal system and a justice system the same thing?

A man is accused of rape, and it goes to trial. In the US legal system, the prosecutors cannot hide information that may exonerate the defendant, they must share it; however, if the defense has information pointing to the defendant's guilt, it doesn't have to turn it over.

My point: in a system of justice, both sides would want the innocent exonerated, and the guilty punished. In our system, that does not happen. The defense's job is to make sure the defendant gets off no matter his guilt. Helping a guilty man go free may not be as bad as helping an innocent man get punished, but both are affronts to justice.

I believe that if people knew how angry God gets when lawyers lie, nobody would choose to become a lawyer, unless they had a genius I. Q. and had the favour by their bosses to choose and reject clients based on the guilt or innocence of the client.

I used to know a guy with a near genius I. Q. and he would reject guilty clients at his legal job. His boss allowed it cause he was unbelievably smart and won almost every case he took on.

But he wasn't perfect, and there were rare situations where he did choose to represent somebody he knew was guilty. He came to a bad situation later on and lost everything other than his life and his biological family.

He's a nice person so I am not going to celebrate the horrible thing that happened to him. Everyone on earth has made bad choices before.

Well, a legal system includes both civil and criminal cases, a justice system is just criminal. In an adversarial legal system, like that of the US, you cannot have both sides trying to exonerate/find the truth, etc.

Theye is a HUGE diffetence between an adversarial system and a Napoleonic inquisitive system. Neither guarantees justice but adversarial comes closer to the "truth," whatever that is.

What we have in America today is a legal system. It definitely cannot be confused with anything resembling justice.

They are two terms that are used interchangeably. However, they sometimes don't mean the same thing. For example, in the US the legal system protects women but often harms men, which is NOT justice.
