What do you think about all of Ron Jeremys sexual criminal charges being dismissed?

On April 3, 2024 , all 34 criminal counts were dismissed per 1385 PC: "California Penal Code 1385 permits courts to dismiss a criminal charge in the furtherance of justice." Therefore, he neither plead guilty, nor was ever convicted of any crimes.

happens a lot.

It happened to me.
I was about 25. I got a traffic ticket - a moving violation (not speeding!)... I usually go to court when this happens. Under the 6th Amendment, I have a right to face my accuser at trial. Well, the cop didn't shop up to my trial, but, officially, he was the only witness against me. So, had this trial continued without the cop, that would have violated my 6th Amendment right to face my accuser at trial and I would have had grounds for an appeal. I was 25 at the time and didn't know my ass from my elbow about the law. So at court, the judge had me come to the bench and quietly instructed me to say "I move to have the charge dismissed in the furtherance of justice." I said it and he said "Case dismissed" and it was over: Ticket gone. No points on license. No fine.

Now, in Ron Jeremy's case, he has "incurable neurocognitive decline" (dementia, basically). If so, then he's "non compos mentis" - a legal term meaning that he doesn't have a sound mind and thus could not defend himself or, possibly, even realize the nature of the charges against him or much else. Convicting him and sentencing him to prison is as pointless as sending a potted plant to prison; there's no real notion of what's going on and no rehabilitation possible.

IF Jeremy could take drugs that would restore a sound mind, he might be able to stand trial later, but he's likely on the way out.

It may suck for his victims, but the speed of justice is often slow and... like in cases with Trump... often too slow.

Honestly it’s hard to say. Especially when you’re in an industry like that. I’m sure there’s plenty of women who are in higher job positions because they got it through sex, but than years later accused the man of sexual assault, rape, etc. I don’t know enough about him really. I’m not saying it’s not possible that he didn’t do what some of these women accused him off, I’d have to look at each case individually. There’s been cases where a girl was drunk as well as the dude, they engaged in sex then she said he took advantage of her because she was embarrassed. She didn’t want others to find out. Two dudes lost their scholarships because a girl accused them of rape. Turns out it was consensual. She was embarrassed. She didn’t want the dude who she really liked to think she was a slut for hooking up w two dudes at once.

I don't know enough about the accusations to feel any way about this. I'd hope the cops and prosecutor did their jobs properly and determined that the case was not appropriate to bring to a jury. If there was something else at play, something shady, I'd be pretty disappointed in the system.

I can't find the particular story you're referencing, but I know his case basically got stalled out because of mental incompetence to stand trial.
