What if the Democratic Convention nominates Biden anyway?

There is a huge majority of convention delegates committed to Joe Biden, the results of all of the states' primaries and caucuses.

There is a growing feeling among many Democrats that Kamal Harris my not be their best chance to win the election.

So...

What if enough of the delegates voted to nominate Joe Biden at the Democratic National Convention anyway, even now that he has dropped out of the race?

If that happens, it could undermine the democratic process and lead to accusations of disenfranchisement. The unity of the party would also be heavily damaged. There are also rules regarding voting and nominations, so breaking some of these rules might result in some legal issues. In conclusion, it would be insanely risky (and dumb) to nominate Biden after he dropped out.

There really isn't a democratic process from a personal perspective (that is, citizen voters who vote in primaries in each state). People fail to realize that. The primary system has only become dominant since 1972. Each political party can put whoever it wants on the ballot in any way they wish. The only aspect of a democratic process is who delegates vote on at the convention. Currently, MOST (not all) delegates from a state vote based on the results of the primary or caucus in their state. However, there are plenty of delegates who are party VIPs and do whatever they want.

Maybe if enough illegal immigrants crashing the Southern Border, are given the right to VOTE in a U. S. election AS a NON-citizen, maybe either one could get elected

I would not discount anything at this stage. I wm trying to figure out how they will get rid of Kamala and maybe find a serious candidate. Let's face it, Kamala is just as big of a turd as Biden is.

@msc545 If anybody cared about any of the fake trials Trump would not be ahead in all the polls and getting tens of millions in donations, most from small donors. If you watched the DNC you would have seen Trump give his most compelling speech just days from almost getting killed.
The 2025 Project has nothing to do with President Trump although most of the policies in it will help working American citizens.

The threshold of delegates to win the nomination have already committed to Harris. The right is still going to try their damndest to stir up anger on the left, since stirring up anger is literally their only tool, but I don't think it's going to stick this time. @normalice Do you know some state rules that the rest of us don't? Most states (by law) require a delegate to vote (at least in the first round) for the candidate that voters chose them for. Those rules were passed years ago to prevent the behind-the-scenes-smoke-filled-rooms that used to choose candidates.

That won't happen. By abandoning his run, he's also released his pledged delegates. The majority of those delegates have already committed to Harris.

@abc3643 Where do people get the idea that they are "pledged" delegates. They are chosen by the voters in each state during that state's primary or caucus. What right does any candidate have to change who the voters picked?

Political parties are private organizations. They can do whatever they want.

That said, "pledged delegates" are sort of like Electoral College electors just, by party rules, the delegates of a state pledge themselves to vote for the winner of the primary in that state.
However, not all delegates represent states; some are just party VIPs.

@drpepper12Unless the Dems rewrite the rules, and get states to change their laws that require delegates to vote for the person the voters chose in their state, the most straightforward way to do this at the Dem Convention would be to have Biden win the first round vote, decline the nomination, release his delegates, and then the 2nd (or later) votes would determine the candidate.
