Why the double standard?

A lot of people seem to have no problem with a convicted felon being elected POTUS. However they don't seem to believe that colleges should accept convicted felons. They also don't think they should have the same job opportunities as those who aren't.

Or at least they aren't up in arms about it.

I think the big difference is, that rehabilitation is good. We should try to let fellons redeem and get resocilized. (Obviously case dependent and not for all crimes) I do think being a fellon should not automatically disqulify you from searching higher education and especially not jobs.

Letting a fellon who is under the impression to have done nothing wrong into a positions to propose new laws on the other hand is completly different scenario. Especially if their main goal seems to be self-empowerment and getting into a position where they can do more lawbreaking while under immunity from prosecution.

Bassically I think the complete opposite of the doublestandart you named, but because I switch both sides it can still be seen as as doublestandart.

I think you’re comparing apples and oranges. Besides you’re not taking into consideration the offense itself. If I had an opening for a job with children I might not hire someone with a felony battery but I might consider someone with a felony fraud.

I'll even give you one that I know of. He attended freshman year being investigated for statutory rape of two 11 year old boys. During winter break he was charged and found guilty, but was out on bail until sentencing. He was not allowed to complete the school year as a convicted felon.

I don't know if it was ever reported in a newspaper, or which newspaperwould have. A friend who was an RA at my alma mater told me that one of his residents was the rapist. I was told in 2010, so I knew the rapists name them, but haven't really thought about it since I heard the story. I remembered the story, but I don't recall the names. I don't even know the RA's name. He'll, I don't remember my RA's name or my roommate's name from then.
