Are there really two USAs?

We have an election structure that depends on the result in 5 or 6 states. There are many states that the candidates will not even bother to visit because either the state will vote for them no matter what or will vote for the other party no matter what. There are only a few states that can be swayed.

What does that say about our country?

The Electoral College is weird. We’re the only democracy I know of where the LOCATION of a vote matters, not just the total. So that lends itself to this very phenomenon. Harris isn’t going to waste her time in Mississippi, Trump won’t waste a lot of time in California. They’ll be in Florida and Pennsylvania and Wisconsin and Michigan…. BYAHHHH!!!😂😂😂

Not true. Our system is not so different than a parliamentary system. Look at Canada for example. Did they use the total votes to elect Trudeau? Nope. It was a bunch of local and provincial elections. The winner of those smaller elections elected the PM in turn. One vote in one location could completely swing the election of PM. Whereas a thousand votes in another location will do nothing.

Actually, in Canada the location can make even more difference than in the US because it's weighted differently.

There are a number of countries whose leader is not elected by popular vote of the people.

Personally I think the states should quit letting people vote for president. I think they should go back to how they originally did it, with the states electing the president, with no vote at all from the people. Just imagine how different and more calm it would be if the current process was eliminated. People would have to find something new to argue about instead of the never-ending shit show we have now.

There are really 50 (or 51, DC) USA's, since each state is its own entity. There's a reason why the name of the country is United States of America, not just America. According to the US Constitution, most governmental power lies with the individual states; the federal government has limited powers. Of course, over time, that has changed as the federal government has taken more powers away from the states.

Yeah, it certainly does feel like the country is completely divided! It’s such a shame. We used to denote years with BC, and AD. Then we switched to BCE, and CE. Soon we’ll switch again to BC, and AC… Before Covid, and After Covid, because it seems like the entire world changed after Covid!

by the way, your map doesn't have the flag of the Independent Conch Republic of Key West!
To my understanding, they needed money from the State or Federal governments, but didn't get it, so they declared independence, and then immediately declared war on the United States! This resulted in a temporary State police blockade of Key West, and the mayor, sorry, I mean the “President" of Key West surrendered Key West to the US, and demanded war reparations. I don’t think it worked, but apparently they did get the Federal funding they needed for several critical infrastructure projects. But then again, the entire story could be bullshit. It was a drunk guy in Key West who told me the story in Sloppy Joes Bar on Duval Street.

@CrazyGirl2 I used to think that the country really changed a lot after 9/11. Covid made 9/11 look like a Sunday school picnic.
So many businesses have gone under , our kids have lost 2 years of school and will never catch up, alcoholism and drug addiction has increased and Covid allowed the democrats to steal the 2020 election and Biden was able to basically bring the US right to the brink of destruction.

I wasn't born when 9/11 happened, so despite what I’ve been told, it’s difficult for me to imagine a world where you can just walk onto a plane after a quick jaunt through a metal detector! But as for the Covid comments, yeah I agree with much of that. But I’m not going to comment on the political stuff, as I fckn’ hate politics and hate discussing it even more! But I do thank god I was in a Florida College During Covid, as the campus was only closed from March until the beginning of the fall semester in late August, however, online classes begin around March 23rd. and my friends who were still in high school lost two weeks, until online classes began, and were back for in person instruction by the end of August for the fall semester of school. However, I am WELL aware that many, MANY school systems around the country were closed for years! A lot of children have suffered because of that and now have issues with socialization, learning disabilities, and in many cases, speech impediments because of the multiple years of mask wearing!

That kind of thinking is part of the reason Clinton lost in 2016. She thought she had some of those states in the bag. She neglected them and lost. She thought some of those states were solid Democrat, which in a way they were at that time. But she didn't count on so many cross-over votes with large number of Democrats voting for Trump. He got a HUGE number of cross-over votes which really changed things.

Over time, almost any state can go any direction, including third party. For example I remember when Republicans won California and a number of other states that are thought of as solid Democratic states now. And many solid Democrat states in the recent past are now Republican states.

Part of the entire purpose of the electoral college system is so states can't be completely neglected. If there was a popular vote it would be far worse. The electoral system forces candidate to at least try to capture the smaller states because they add up.

I have no idea what that map is supposed to represent. But I do know that it's highly dynamic. Whatever the current trend is in a particular state, you can't count on it lasting forever. It can change very quickly.

I think we should lax the restrictions on states assimilating parts of others. Our state borders should be more subject to change. Most counties in Washington and Oregon, for example, don't identify with their states because they don't have a say in how they're run, and want to join Idaho. But over time since the country was founded, it's become harder and harder for state borders to change.

We are , and it won't get better. Liberals try to force global rule and fake global warming and then throw in a head cold and take everyones rights with that. We are complete opposites with nothing in common. There will be a civil war and I mean to the death. This could happen during World War 3 or during a depression as sides say the other caused it. If Republicans had ball sacks and did to Democrats what Democrats do to Republicans , we would already had second civil war. When it comes , South and Midwest will win reducing the so called American Progressives, Liberals Democrats, Socialists, and communists by 30% and shutting those cucks up. TheElectoral College was designed so that all the power is centralized in just a few States. The US is a big country and the majority of the population is located a hundred miles from the coast. In no time the central part of the country would be unable to get any legisltion passed that would be advantageous to them.
