150 people is the limit of maintaining relationships. So if we want to expand to things that take over 150 people there has to be some compromises made. I assume you like the internet and not remembering every I turned technician by name and their kids hobby right?

How about your vehicle, road, your cellphone, gps, restaurants. Just know a guy who knows a guy and we change favors equally. Or we can skip the small talk and take my money. Humanity played this trial and error game multiple times but all roads lead to money in solving this problem.

There use to be honor among people long before money got involved. People used to work hard and help each other, you see it today in certain societies like the Amish.

It goes back to simpler lifestyle and you own just what you need, not all of the glamourous crap.

It has to be a very basic level society for it to function without money or more generally a medium of exchange.

Even at a hunter gatherer level tribes exchanged either young men or young women and elaborate deals are worked out involving daughters that haven't yet been born. If a young man was exchanged into a tribe he would be working off a bride price.

I've read in Australian Aboriginal society, the elders decided who nubile girls would be married to. Oddly it was usually an elder. Young men got sexual access by performing tasks for an elder.

Don't know if this really true but very likely sex was the first medium of exchange. Always desirable and always more wanted.

If you are excluding barter you can't really get above an agrarian society without money. Anyone with specialized skills would have to grow food themselves rather than smelting copper for example

Money is a good motivator and Human Civilization was always founded on some sort of trading system so, it seems impossible to avoid.

Plus, if we had people agree we don’t need money to have a functioning society…. We would need all stockholders, bank account holders, politicians, media groups, etc. to be on board which will never happen especially in our high divisive political climate. To get rid of it is difficult since that is what human civilization has been coincided with since the beginning.

Money was invented because society couldn't function without it. When we were hunter gatherers it wasn't a problem as we could lend out items to one another and not need to worry about them being returned as we knew who took it and where our item was but by the time cities like UR were made 3000BC it was no longer possible thus the necessity of money came to be.

Pretty sure we would've survived and adapted just fine. Humans are the only species that have a form of currency. I feel like everyone is brainwashed by society to think that it's needed.

humans are not the only species to have currency. some species of penguins trade rocks and even have prostitution while trade has existed for monkeys and apes since before humans evolved.

A barter based economy relies on you being able to find someone who has something that you need that also wants something you have.

Yes, money systems have their issues, but money systems make trade so much easier, and also allow people to acquire goods and services they need when they need it without convoluted barters and trades.

We do right now because honestly there's no other way to determine the value for something without letting greed in. Ex: lets say I wanted a xbox 1 and all I had were some Jordan's shoe's that were sign by him. That xbox 1 is no where near in value in comparison to the shoe's but it's all I have. What would you do in situation?

Any large-scale society like that would be conquered very quickly.

It could work for some small villages though.

How could there be fair trade? Not everybody is honest. In fact, when it comes to trade, most people, like 99%, approach it as a means to outdo the other guy.
