Why is it that for well over the last 100 years there has been a near even split between the two parties?

For example we would not even expect wikipedia to have a page listing artists FOR trump.

They flip flop views back and fourth throughout the history of the parties and they both have the same ultimate goals.

Because most people don't know the first thing about politics and news outlets know they can capitalize off people's egos and laziness to assign certain identities to different causes.

This is a big part of what creates the marketplace for lobbying (bribery but it's legal) which is really all our government is at this point.

I don't trust that chart. It implies that less than 2% of registered voters are Independent, or members of minority parties (Green, Libertarian, etc.). That's not right.

Information from Forbes states that about 27-28% of voters consider themselves to be Democrats, and the same 27-28% of voters consider themselves to be Republicans.

I think these surveys only include partisan people. The independents and third parties are excluded. Which is a really important topic though. It means that the non-partisans can outvote either party...

The other parties are not relevant because the chart is about the Democrats and Republicans. Are you also going to say you don't trust it because it didn't refer to parties in the UK? That would make about as much sense. Even you second paragraph confirms that the chart is accurate.

@Kelley1 If one does the math, the chart labels clearly total to 98% in '94 and 97% in '23 DEms+Reps of registered voters, which disagrees with the percentages in Forbes, where Dems+Reps total only 54-56% of registered voters. The chart is at best misleading, and at worst totally wrong, although it is about true that there are about an equal number of Dems and Reps registered to vote.

Because the Democrats lean left, and the Republicans lean right and the majority of the American electorate are somewhere in-between.

Handed down politics. Parents to kids is part of it. Maybe it's to do with brainwaves. An equilibrium.
