My beloved peeps, once again, I must say that you should all be nice to each other here. I want to know everyone’s thoughts. 💜 What do ya think? 😌

To be honest, I don't really know what feminism is anymore. What passes for feminism today is not something I, and most women, want to associate themselves with. I feel like it has lost its way and doesn't even know itself what it stands for. There's no doubt it has become toxic and divisive.

But then there is the argument that the toxic and divisive elements in modern feminism are not real feminism. I mean feminism of the past was definitely a good thing and helped me as a woman because without it I would still not be able to vote, work, own property, and all those things. But can we even use the term feminism to label what feminism is today? It doesn't seem right to me.

And then there is the argument that, as another poster here said, "Feminism is a range, a spectrum. Not a single belief, or a mono-task system where everyone thinks the same. Don't trust my word though, do your research. If you like trolling, go to a feminist community and drop the trans bomb, you will see feminists shooting at each other, because there are disagreements inside feminism about the status of trans women, women or not?" Okay, that just says that feminism is everything and nothing at all. It has no direction, no goal, no unity. Huh? So what the hell even is it then?

The realization I have come to lately is that what we need more than anything today is unity between men and women. We need to be fighting for each other's interests, like we're on the same team, not adversaries. We should advocate for each other, not fight over everything. Because BOTH men and women face challenges and injustices in the western world today, But feminism does not advocate for men, I mean lets be honest, and that's not equality. Feminism is supposed to be THE gender equality movement, and in the past it was, but it's obviously not today. But it leave no room for any other movements that might actually help everyone, and not just women. It's like it has a monopoly on the "gender equality" brand and fiercely guards its entitlement as such.

So why do we even need a label to be an advocate for gender equality, especially when that label is FEMINism and has been irrevocably associated with sexism, toxicity and divisiveness, to the point where so many women like me can't even feel good about saying we support it? Instead of trying to salvage the outdated term of "feminism", which I don't think is even possible at this point, why not instead use "humanism" or something similar, is we need a label at all, and welcome both women AND men into the community and approach things from a standpoint of compassion and caring about everyone, not just females?

I think that the term feminism is used to encompass too many disparate things nowadays.

I stand by what it originally was meant to be: equality for women.

I don't transcribe to the school of thought that women > men, nor do I exclude trans women, and nor do I use feminism to justify treating men poorly.

Fun fact:  Feminist icon,  Gloria Steinem  was funded by the CIA. She knew Epstein.  Margaret Sanger  was a racist eugenics advocate, hoping to destroy the black family. Rebellion and abortion were occultist practices knowingly and unknowingly practiced by the feminist movement.  The point was to destroy family for government control  (kids going to government public schools, assuming you have any) , and lower labor costs by doubling the workforce, it was  VERY  effective at those goals. They have leftist, communist leaning origins. If feminism made women happy, Western women  *should be*  ecstatic, happy, lovely paragons of humanity. But sadly, they're mostly alcoholic, single, cat women. "The Patriarchy"  they should be fighting is the corpos who funded feminism in the first place. What they did is trade in one sort of service, of love and family, to become a cog in a soulless corporation touted as liberation. Big business laughed all the way to the bank. Go down the rabbit hole, the truth is that most leaders in the feminist movement have shady pasts.

I think modern day feminism has been twisted out of its original shape. Women in the 1920s were fighting for a right to vote while women today are fighting to oppress men.

The sad thing is outside the west there are women fighting real oppression, in Iraq they can't play sports, In Saudi Arabia women couldn't drive cars till 2016, and in china there are countless underaged girls getting kidnapped and turned into sex slaves for the rest of their lives. there is real oppression out there yet their focused on fighting strawmen instead of the real horrors out there.

Of course it's a choice. And it's a very confusing one.

Women's lib and feminism were good and necessary. But as with all movements, it eventually went off the rails. The same thing happened with LGB rights and BLM for example.

I don't think movements go off the rails due to grass roots pressure, but may get hijacked by power people or entities who use them for nefarious purposes.

The other problem is with high-profile influencers who get rich writing and speaking "for" the movements and being controversial for ratings. Those influencers don't speak for the people, but they get lots of publicity which influences a number of morons.

Loud, radical influencers not only draw a certain type of followers, but also scare the shit out of people who don't agree and believe that's what the movement stands for.

Hence, the number of guys who think all women are radical feminists who are out to get them.

Feminism is wanting to be equally treated in the eyes of the law, people in your everyday life, and general dignity / decency / respect. Where you aren’t treated differently for your gender though through your character, demeanor, personality, actions, words, etc.
Judgement of individual not of group. Every woman I believe is born a feminist. There is toxic feminity like toxic masculism (in different way) though majority are in a peaceful, positive, good way. It is female freedoms, not at the expense of males or trans or whatever/whoever else. No one gets left behind.

It's not seen for what it is and most only look at the sexist extremists and think that is what feminism is.
Feminism is just equity rights in society and the workplace, that's it. it's nothing sexist or against anyone. The only reason it is called feminism is because women were fighting for equal and equity treatment in the workplace and society.
it's just, the extreme & toxic minded went sexist with it and social media & the news advertised it that way... because drama is seen as entertainment & views.

Same thing happened with the furry fandom, social media & the news grabbed the small handfull of people and advertised it as the whole fir drama & views. All the furry fandom was until then was a a massive charity raising of people, cosplaying anthro characters they made, like an anime convention has cosplayers.
But, because if social media & the news it has turned into a toxic cesspool of perverts and drama causing people.

Ok here we go,

So, as it is now I'm not sure feminism as a movement is neccessary. As far as the Law is concerned men and women are equal and have been for some time.

Inequalities and sexism happens, and will always happen, on an individual basis.

I feel as though feminism is begining to overcorrect and now the movement is persuing special treatment and discrimination against men rather than equal rights. Occasionally going to such lenghts as to manufacture dishonest victimized mentalities and to falsely accuse people of sexism and/or discrimination.

Don't get me wrong. Sexism and discrimination exist and persist. It is important to call it out when it happens, but only when it actually DOES happen. False accusations and fake victims only make it that much harder to Identify real situations. See "The Boy Who Cried Wolf".

Feminism generally is not really about equality. Even the first wave feminism. It's already in the label itself because if it truly is about equality, it should have been gender neutral and it should have advocate for both men and women's rights. The only true equality is just the word equality itself. Saying I support feminism and saying I support equality just have a big difference. If feminists really like to argue that feminism is about equality then masculinism is too. But if they oppose that idea then thats double standards which is basically the opposite of equality.

It seems to me that feminism has spent a lot more time and energy over the last 10 15 years justifying it's existence and deflecting well deserved criticism than it has doing anything positive for anyone, let alone women and girls. I could rattle off a long list of harmful things we all know feminism has caused directly or indirectly, but I sure can't think of many, if any, positive things that can be attributed to feminism over the last 1 - 2 decades.

Yeah, yeah, I can hear it now..."feminism is nothing more than gender equality" Sure, of course it is. The only context in which that is true in the western world today if we consider the equal harm it has done to both genders.

I would argue it's mostly how we are brought up before it's a choice. If your brought up in Saudi Arabia I don't think your views on women would be as progressive as been brought up in England and that mostly was factored by your society and upbringing.

It's a choice somewhere if you are educated enough to change your mind but a lot of factors warp one's views. This could be argued to many things within personalities in general.

So it's a yes and no situation.

Feminism is the old Women's Liberation movement out of the 60's, co-opted by the left, like the Ecology movement (the radical Climate Change movement) and the Republican led Civil Rights movement. Both are used to separate people and cause tribalism.
