Dodging the draft is obviously illegal. That said a draft dodger is a person who illegally avoids joining the armed forces. Draft deferments are legal. Many people received them for a period of time. Some people missed the war because of them. For other people it was only a temporary delay before they either joined willingly and received a more favorable position or they were drafted as they dragged their feet and were placed into an infantry position. My father for example was in college when the draft started. He had a couple deferments before he joined the Air Force and worked in cryptanalysis of signals intelligence. As a result he ended up in Okinawa, Japan. He got on the bus in the morning and went tot he office. He did math for a couple hours and went home by lunch. Not everyone involved in the Vietnam war had the same experience. Comparing sex to war is just bravado. There is nothing illegal about boasting about your sex life and there are plenty of dirt bag privates that are sleeping around. Just don’t lie about your service. Don’t make up bullshit stories. Either tell real ones or don’t talk about it.

As far as I'm concerned, using any tool available to get out of that damned war was justified. That includes using any kind of deferment, lying, skipping out, or going to Canada. Some people might consider that unpatriotic. But I consider going over there and fighting that fucked up war as unpatriotic. The US government was in the wrong, and it was a patriotic duty to fight against that government.

It's not even so much about being over there. It's about fighting a war without trying to win. It's about dragging it on and on, and getting hundreds of thousands of people killed and accomplishing nothing. They were NOT fighting to win. They were just fucking around.

If I was drafted, I had every intention of not going. I planned to either disappear within the US or go to Canada. I see absolutely nothing wrong with doing that. I do not hold it against anyone from that era doing whatever was necessary to get out of it.

Haven't heard about his Vietnam thing but he's insulted the troops and had someone from his campaign assault the Arlington employee so he could shanelessly use a graveyard as a photo op. I know we'd hear about nothing else every minute until November if Kamala said and did all these insane/illegal things and flip flopped an opinion from yesterday. P. S. To those who don’t know how laws work, law makers / those serving in public office are immune from draft automatically. Trump utilized his wealth and his power to evade the draft making up BS excuse to stay out of war, Trump isn’t brave / strong, he is a conman. That is why I was sucked into Trump, his con ways got me & my family hook line n sinker that was until we paid attention to his bullshit…. Pandemic made us move away from faith he would have our backs then January 6th cemented our stay away, we won’t go back!
