Is it disrespectful to lie to avoid military service when your compatriots are doing their military service?

No. I don't support compulsory service. Fuck that.
Our military isn't defending this country. It sends our soldiers to get injured and killed while invading countries half way around the world.
I don't have any respect for that at all even if I feel sorry for the victims on both sides of conflicts.
But if a soldier gets PTSD or his legs blown off in another country, I wonder what he was doing there in the first place. He wasn't defending America from attack. He was the one doing the attacking. And I didn't ask him to. He chose to.
If someone thinks it is "patriotic" to join the military, that's their choice. But as far as I'm concerned it's a job just like being a teacher, firefighter, construction, factory or office worker. I respect those people as much as I do soldiers. But I don't think they are heroes.
Oh, but the war hawks who sit in cushy offices and start ward for profit claim that the U. S. is defending democracy and human rights. LOL Tell that to the over 12 million killed since WWII. That doesn't include injuries or lives destroyed.
As previous posters have said, you don't have to lie to avoid military service in the US just don't enlist. If you're in some other country, it depends. If you're in Ukraine, yes it's damn disrespectful if you have the ability to serve and don't. If the IDF wants to send you to kill unarmed Palestinians to keep Netanyahu out of jail, no it isn't.

Are you talking about someone/something specific? Because the U. S. doesn't have compulsory military service. Now, if you're talking about the draft, not at all. You don't owe your compatriots anything. If they're suckers and want to go fight a war that's not even theirs, that's THEIR problem. NOW, if they were actually fighting for THEIR country, that would be different. There was no threat of the "domino effect" reaching the U. S. This was nothing government propaganda and paranoia and they used their own people to fight a dirty war they were too sissy to fight themselves, and we never should've even been involved in.
Yes it is disrespectful especially to all the brave men & women who put their lives on the line to preserve, protect, and defend the Country they hold dear.

Who is a ''compratiot'', I wonder...
Just because I had been born in one country that I hadn't asked for, and being surrounded by people I don't necessarily seek to be friends with...
is clearly not enough to risk my life for some politician's ideas.
Respect --- needs to be earned; it cannot be claimed.
Well if it's forced enlistment it really depends. I'm a veteran but I'm not blindly doing what Uncle sam says, if they want me back for a war it better make sense.
Realistically you don't want a guy who would lie but again this is very much a circumstance question.
You are never obligated to give up your life for anyone. That is entirely your choice and nobody can fault you for prioritizing your own survival.
You don't even have mandatory service in the U. S.
Switzerland doesn't even have a military.
Yes and no
A strong yes if you are protecting your own nation
It would probably depend on the circumstances.
Simples...
No. Especially if it's unjustified war.
Not if you have a valid reason.
Like President Bone Spurs?
Well a former president did it.
It is certainly dishonest.
My bone spurs are real!
Like Trump?
I think so.
