What are your thoughts? Coming from Canada it baffles me as to why only men have been president of the USA.

1 yStraight up misogyny AND our support of maternity is non existent so women don't get an opportunity to advance politically in the PRIME years they would otherwise be building a name, contacts and guidance.
"I'M SPEAKING" (Kamala Harris) should be every woman's campaign slogan along with "Yet she persisted" by Liz Warren

1 yBecause many older people will not vote for a woman because of her sex, period. I had someone actually say that to me. Basically, she can have the right policies, be an excellent speaker, have a flawless track record, have a commanding presence and there are still people who wouldn't vote for her because of her sex. It's insane. I think Condoleezza Rice would have made a great president, for example.
I think another aspect is religious. I am a Christian, but I know how to study the Bible and I don't cherry-pick which verses count in my faith. In the Bible, Paul writes, "But I do not suffer (allow) a woman to teach, or to exercise authority over a man, but to remain in silence...". Ergo, most Christian would take that to mean women shouldn't be CEOs or presidents of anything. But that is a religious context, not a general one, and it is specific to a woman not exercising religious authority over her husband in the presence of other men in a shame and honor society at the time. It would have shamed him for his wife to speak.
I'm not a feminist (maybe old school; I do think women should be able to have jobs, own land, vote). What people don't acknowledge about the presidency is that it's not a one-man (or one-woman) show. The president is supported by hundreds of people, men and women. A female president would have many men supporting her and advising her, just like a male one would. Anyone in a position of great power needs tremendous support, man or woman.
That's what I think it is...
20 ReplyWhy hasn't Canada ever freely elected a Canadian head of state?
Why does Canada keep electing s party run by a racist misogynistic sex offender?

22 ReplyCanada is much better than the USA, keep being jealous yankee
Anonymous(36-45)1 yPeople are completely wrong in saying it's because of misogyny. Most average voters don't care about a candidates gender, they care about who's best suited for the job of President. There have been very few women run for president as a major party candidate, and 99% of them were terrible candidates. Had the 2020 primary not been rigged for Biden, and Tulsi had been given a fair shot, she would have beaten Trump in a landslide to be elected the first Woman president. Lol at all the people thinking Harris is going to be elected the first woman president, us independents will not vote for a deep state puppet who has to resort to suing to keep candidates off ballots cause it helps, maybe don't hand the Democratic nomination to a terrible candidate people don't want to vote for.

1 yCanada has no gun rights. The people are subject to rich old men that control the political theater. We at least are trying to hang on to our gun rights. The minute we lose them we don’t deserve them if we didn’t use them before they were taken.
You see power comes from drones and young men on the ground with guns not paper and ink. Right now politicians are actors and puppets, so it really doesn’t matter who the president is.

1 ySexism. It's fucking stupid to pretend it's about qualifications when we've elected a man who had ZERO political or military experience—and might do that AGAIN instead of voting for a qualified female candidate.

Anonymous(25-29)1 yBecause even though Hilary won by 3 million votes, America used some kind of bizarre medieval math that says she lost lol. If any other country elected their second place finisher, America would be trying to overthrow their government and demanding they embrace democracy.

it's called the electoral college, a remnant of our past that should have been dismantled a long time ago
3.2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Since the USA seem to want to be in everyone’s business. I would fear that since there are countries that women are only for men’s pleasure and having babies. That a woman president would not be taken seriously.
I am not saying that a few women wouldn’t make good leaders.00 Reply- 1.9K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
1 yThey probably are just not qualified and have nothing to do with a gender. If people vote for a president just because of their gender instead of their actual qualifications, it would be messed up. If you think about it, they're also many more male candidates and a lot of them didn't even win but is it because they're are shorter, browner, balder, uglier, etc? No. It's the same for those female candidates, it's not because they are female.

1 yUntil recently the majority believed that women couldn’t be leaders. That started to change in the 1960s and slowly women have shown they could excel in leadership positions. So it is a generational glass ceiling as many voters grew up with those old thoughts in the USA

1 yAmerica is a patriarchy, they won’t give up that power. It’s also worth noting our first (and so far only) non-white president was only elected in 2012, over 140 years after the emancipation proclamation.

False. Shirley Chisolm was outstandingly qualified. Hillary even more so.
1 yBecause of feminism and how every female presidential candidate is always using what’s between her legs to attempt to win elections instead of running on policies that’ll benefit the American people as a whole and not just women

Anonymous(45 Plus)1 yBecause our founding fathers never envisioned a female ever being Pres. Females were not even allowed to vote until a short while ago. Also, past leaders were aware of the more liberal nature of females, which would have messed up our nation at an even earlier time in history. (IMHO)

He is a leader because he handled the border, she has not. Because he pushed NATO slackers to spend more money in their own defense. He was a good leader because he didn’t start any wars when Dems said he would. He was a good leader because the economy was doing great, inflation was low, housing was affordable. I won’t pity those who suffer under Harris as they are likely her voters. I’ll be fine.
