this may be controversial, but i believe they were more free and living to the full... you all have your own opinions... whats yours?
1.1K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Well I'll tell you what I've been waiting for it because our country would be in a much better place right now in the sixties there were protests when our elected officials did something stupid there were protests if they were trying to pass a bill that was out of control there was a protest for everything it's because people were more real they cared about where we were headed.
Think about it everybody called those hippies potheads stupid out of control they are the ones that got us to where we are at now in a positive way if it wasn't for them we who knows where we're going to be right now yes we need to bring back people to care for our kids in the future because that's what it's all about being steamrolled each and every day and we are just allowing it to happen and I don't understand that..
Our government right now is putting themselves into position to be all of our bankers do you understand what happens if they become our bank that means they can control our money they don't have to give it to us if they don't want to if we don't want to go out and buy a new car they don't have to let us buy a new car because they will control that
Everything that we do by has to go through them first it has to be approved by them first...
If they control your money they control everything about you and then that means everything about all of us and we cannot have that
Here I am talking shit all the time about our government because I think they're wrong
Now just because I do that they might not like it because I'm rocking the boat
But now I go into a grocery store to buy my weekly groceries I put them out on the counter and they say sorry your card number did not go through try again tomorrow try again the next day they have full control of everything we do once they have our money
Everything will have a receipt to it that means if I see a motorcycle that I want to buy I can't go out and just buy it and pay cash for it I have to use their money currency that whatever they decide we're using and that's just totally wrong too but there is no more just going and buying something if you want it there's no more being free with the money that you earned from your job because you worked hard there's no more of that
And we need some hippie some leaders I don't care what you call them to start protesting because we all need to protest25 Reply- 1 y
You're a very smart girl and really it goes a lot deeper than that. And I love this question because it's the truth and somebody you're going to be the leader I guess because you need to get this movement going again I'm serious I'm serious serious because we are in a world to travel we are headed down all the wrong roads as we the people the government is heading down the road they want to go down because that way they can control us and have their thumb overs at all times..
Far as I'm concerned everything I've read of yours your leader and you need to lead - 1 y
But.. but... But... REEFER MADNESS!! 😂
Then make like the 60's and PROTEST !!!

u 1 yYou are 16 years old so everything you know about hippies is what you have read and seen in the media. Movements such as that tend to be romanticized by the media and the portrayals that you have read have probably not been accurate. At your age, romantic ideals are very appealing so I do understand why you might be enamored with hippies.
The most important thing you need to know about the hippie lifestyle is that roughly 99% of people who were once hippies eventually left that lifestyle. Why do you think they did that?01 Reply - 2.9K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
1 yWhat for?
First of all, the 60s didn't happen. Or as it's sometimes said, the 60s happened in the 70s.
It's like the news. What you see is the exception, not the rule. There were almost no hippies in the 60s. Most of the ones that did exist were at the very end of the 60s. For example if you look at pictures of Woodstock, most of those guys were only just starting to grow their hair long.
That was near the end of 1969 and much of what documentaries portray as the 60s was only just starting. Those documentaries show the EXCEPTIONS, not anything that was remotely normal
Most of the young people in the 60s were more like what you probably envision as the 50s. Really straight, short hair, conservative dress, conservative values (extremely conservative compared to today). They didn't do drugs. Almost all went to church.
I was actually in San Francisco in the summer of 1967. That was the Summer of Love. I don't actually remember seeing any hippies. I might have seen a few, but not enough to stand out. Hippies were an extremely small minority in the 60s.
I'm not sure what it is that you want to bring back. Much of the change that took place in the 60s and 70s remained. So it doesn't need to be brought back because it never left.
Do you want to bring back the drug culture? Trust me, you don't want that. It was a train wreck. You want to bring back "free love"? Well, it's debatable if that ever happened in the first place. Just like the "hook up culture" today doesn't really exist.
"more free and living to the full"
Yea, it was a hell of a lot of fun. But there were serious downside. People delayed their lives. They eventually grew out of that and got serious about life. Probably most people look back with fond memories. I do too. But I know full well that we tend to remember the good times and forget the bad times. The drugs especially had some very serious negative consequences.
There is no reason why you can't have fun today. There is no reason why you shouldn't live your life to the fullest. Just don't neglect other important parts of your life.
As I said, much of that lifestyle never left. You have a LOT more social freedom now than people did in the 60s.

I'd just be happy with safe hitchhiking
- 1 y
@DrPepper12
Hitch hiking is still popular in Europe. People in the US still do it, but it's not anywhere near as popular as it used to be.
I would not be against hitch hiking today, and have seriously thought about going out for one last adventure. I have hitched around 15K miles and would love to do it again. I don't know if it's any more dangerous now than it ever was. The media would have you believe everything is more dangerous now, but it's not actually true. But the thing about hitch-hiking is that so few people do it today, that people might get the wrong idea.
577 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I was at the very tail end of that generation and trend of lifestyle.
It was pretty much over by the time I came of age.
I believe that many intentions of the time were good, but not sustainable.
It's certainly a complicated subject.
Should it return?
In some ways, sure, with a nod to responsibility and accountability.
In other ways, it was a bit too ignorant of its consequences.
Again, it's a very complicated topic.
I'm no expert on the topic, just a guy who witnessed it on TV to some extent as a little kid and then experienced its fading away as I became a teenager.20 Reply
1 yOh yes definitely!!! I am have actually became more of a hippie as i have become more educated and wise over the years lol. What this world really needs is a movement a tsunami wave of love and acceptance to conquer all this hate and toxicity around us in the world today that is dividing us all and destroying this beautiful earth!

Anonymous(45 Plus)1 yThe lack is moral doctrine in today's societies is not doing it any favours. And you are suggesting leaning more into this. It doesn't sound like a good thing but it's increasingly your world so you'll have to deal with it.
Just be careful what you wish for.12 Reply
Opinion Owner1 yHow do children learn values, morals and standards if everyone is preaching love, peace and freedom?
Children respond best to an orderly, safe, predictable and structured environment and it does not sound like what you are suggesting.
Peace and love is a nice aspiration but the human race is not nearly there.
12K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. How did the hippie movement make America better? I accept that the civil Rights movement was absolutely necessary. Back then things were nowhere near as good as they look from here. I also realize that women needed to be empowered and to be delivered from control by the patriarchy. Even though I'm a conservative, I'll say that.

Perfectly well said!
The newer generations could never lol. The movements have their moment because of society at the time. The newer generation need to have their moment already. As it stands right now we feel more broken than ever. Every empire eventually falls and maybe it's the US turn. People in the comments are right though, we need a new wave of changes for the better.

They discovered in practice it didn't work and their communes collapsed because far too few people wanted to be producers.10 Reply

2.8K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Spiritual and new age movements are going through something of a resurgence. The task is to wed these ideas to 'real life'. Having genuine integrity and working from a place of honesty is extremely difficult. We talk about onlyfans whoring, but we whore ourselves out when we allow our soul to be sucked out working for a paycheck. Got to earn a living, somehow. Effectively things have become harder than ever with the cost of living and housing crisis. All by design of course.

1 yThe problem with any movement is that when we see them in history we only see the extreme parts of the movement. However the ideas and heart of the movement is never lost just becomes less evident. The equal rights movement never really went away it just took on different forms. It’s still alive. It lives on in the people and that lived in that era and then is passed down to the next generation.

1 yTake a look at your grandparent's generation, the Boomers. The leadership they elected, the welfare they promoted, squandering your future and the future of this country. Now, knowing how that ended... should we bring back the hippie movement?
10 Reply26.4K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. A bunch of entitled, hypocritical selfish dirtbags. They really screwed up the country in a lot of ways. Everyone thinks it was all peace and love but if you saw it up close it was really like the way it was in the Forrest Gump movie.

U do realise the government is taking women's rights again how about u hear her out on it bc sooner or later women's rights will be gone and the hippie movement will be back bc of that

@DrPepper12 More likely they were assholes.
As long as they don't dress and talk like morons, I'd be all for it. I have way more in common with hippies than either of our political parties.

I think I just hate woketards more than hippies. At least a hippy would not call me a Nazi just because I don't want to have sex with a trans.
Anonymous(25-29)1 yThe only thing I agree with was that they were anti-war. Other than that they were just as big of POSs as the liberals of today.
From what I heard from the vets of the time, these were the same people who opposed the war and then turned around to call the veterans "baby-killers" (ironic when compared to today) while being too retarded to remember that many of them were drafted and had no choice but to fight in a war so pointless that LBJ had to false flag us into.
11 Reply- 1 y
Vets got shit on even tho drafted. Agreed.
Did they commit war crimes? Yes
Have we made it up to these vets? Not by a long shot
