Is it really necessary to keep selling ar 15 style rifles or any guns that are like it?

I support having a handgun for protection purposes. But with all the mass shootings frankly I'd be just fine seeing AR 15 style weapons not being sold to civilians anymore.
The only people who specifically use those for anything are people that are actually in a war, or people who intentionally plan to cause mass casualties with it like say people in street gangs, or people intentionally wanting to threaten people like those storming the capital or some people wanting to threaten poll workers. I support that weapon being used by police or people in legit war scenarios. But I just don't see a need as for why a civilian in their everyday harmless life to legitimately need a gun like that. I think the only other reason as to why people want to keep it is because they are just addicted to it, in such a way that they think they need it but don't need it really. Someone's gonna say they live in a dangerous neighborhood and "need it" when really all they need is a handgun because it's practical.

It's funny how "Gun Control" propagandists zeroed in on the AR-15 design. In the 1950s, Armalite Rifle invented a bolt and receiver design that is reliable but functions no differently than any other semiautomatic design. Winchester, Browning, Ruger, and endless others invented their own semiautomatic designs, each with different variations.
One shot per trigger pull. Semiautomatics merely re-chamber another round automatically. And they have been around for well over 100 years.

What makes the AR platform stand out is its modern, light weight, composite stock (as opposed to wood), the various, aftermarket, ergonomic stock designs available, and the ease with which it can be accessorized with barrel shrouds, scope mounts, flash suppressors, bipods, etc.
It's like the various aftermarket cosmetic parts that are available for customizing cars.

Those parts don't make the gun function any differently than any other semiautomatic rifle or handgun, but they can make it easier to fire accurately.

Improvements in functionality and accuracy has always been the goal of gun manufacturers. The cap and ball was a vast improvement over the flintlock, etc.

It's black stock and accessories do make it look scarier to people who aren't familiar with firearms. And that's what Gun Control propagandists focused on. The goal was to imply that "If it looks like a machine gun, it must be a machine gun."

Their motive for fooling the public is to succeed in banning one model of semiautomatic. And if they can set a legal precedent for that, it opens the door to banning more and more semiautomatics.
They want to eviscerate the second amendment and disarm citizens. It's not about saving lives.

Interestingly, the AR platform is the most popular for hunting. The ATF even refers to it as a "sporting rifle".
They are the most popular platform on the market, and NOT because they are intended to shoot people.

Another thing is, it is typically chambered for a small caliber bullet - .223/5.56 - which is almost the same diameter as a.22. They can be chambered for different calibers, though, like.308.

All rifles (bolt action, lever action and semiautomatic) are used in about 2.5% of firearm homicides, and so-called "assault rifles" are a subset of that. So that means that, with the current firearm homicide rate of about 20,000 per year, maybe 200 involve an "assault rifle". And the FBI says that 80% of firearm homicides are gang related.

So the fear of "ARs" is unjustified. It is a result of incessant Gun Control Lobby propaganda, which is led by globalist elites.

Initially, this ALL began with entrepreneurs seeking to monetize confiscated and 'war surplus' supply stockpiles. Gun enthusiasts veterans and vicarious 'wanna-be's sought both a 'bargain' and demonstrable 'lethality' from Hollywood's fantasy fare.

There's a warehouses in Vermont and Alexandria VA who wholesale purchases then retail re-sells entire 3rd world country's armories, to and including tanks and artillery! These Seller countries then 'trade up' to their own newer armaments.

I myself, a Veteran, former police officer and one-time legal FFL Dealer, ... purchased a surplus-ed British FN-FAL licensed SEMI-auto.308 for its durability, accuracy & reliability. Aside from range trips to maintain MY marksmanship, that rifle resides in MY locked gun locker for 13 years!

A telling quotation was given by the Japanese armistice signatories when at the conclusion of WWII they were asked why Japan never even CONSIDERED an invasion of the continental US, they replied: "Because with our history of revolutionary war 'minutemen'... there would have been a well-armed citizen behind every rock and tree!" That Conservative mentality KEEPS OUR more would be 'dictatorial' politicians relatively "in check". As for "is this necessary?" Here's my hellmarry for gun control for gun nuts. You can't use your gun in a clear as day common sense self defense because of the stigma of gun ownership right now. On top of people too stupid of actually self defense to understandself defense. Even In deep red states with more guns then people. Jury even army veterans will say "skill issue" go directly to jail. So no one ultimately safe using a gun even legally without millions of dollars.

The so called assault rifles are semi automatic weapons. The same as any other semi automatic rifle. They are not anymore lethal than this rifle

Guns were even more available just as deadly as the ones we have now for nearly all of American history.

lol you have no idea what you’re talking about. Military doesn’t use AR-15s. Actually hand guns would be easier to carry around to shoot people than an AR-15. All sort of things are illegal, still happens. Educate yourself more before you start spitting out nonsense. I think a lot of people own guns to protect people, not everyone has mass casualty deranged ideas behind why they have it. A lot of people who own guns have never done wrong w it.

Necessary? No. But no part of modern society has ANYTHING to do with necessity.  Modern sporting rifles are light, accurate, fun to shoot and a tool like any other firearm.
