Living in this crazy world do people base a person value on the how a person looks or what they have to offer?

I think people prefer certain looks when it comes to choosing their friends but appearance could also be a test to weed out shallow alliance choosers. I have very good looking friends who do not care about looks at all when choosing their friends. I haven't met everyone in their circle but they told me they have very ugly friends who are house wives to rich guys, and that sometimes luck matters just as much as assets.
