They took information from insurance claims excluding Kaiser. So it should be a minimum of 13k. Presuming some had to pay out of pocket because insurance wouldn't cover and Kaiser is so big, the fact they wouldn't share information should reduce the numbers.

I hate the doctors and any therapist that talks the parents into having the surgery done, but ultimately it is the parents or legal guardians responsibly to protect the kid.

Ah, I misread your comment. I suppose it would depend on definition. If by girls we mean adolescent youth, or under 18 then yes. I would find that disfigurement horrendous as well. I don't think we should do elective surgeries on kids that don't understand the potential ramifications. My mom, for example, was an adult when she got her breast implants and now she's in middle age and has an autoimmune disorder which is likely (doctor believes) due to this surgery. If we're inflicting that on kids who aren't even capable of having a cigarette or a beer I'm vehemently against that.

Yeah these were cis girls under 18 getting it for things like severe asymmetry, tubular asymmetry, and Poland syndrome. Nobody really brings this up when they talk about trans kids. When it's cis kids, most people think it's perfectly fine.

I'm of the opinion that surgeries shouldn't be performed before 18 but puberty blockers and hormones are fine with me.

Tubular asymmetry of the breasts? How would that work? Milk ducts don't line up or what? A brief google search looks like it causes offset nipples or a gap between breasts. Poland syndrome just sounds like another type of asymmetry. I'm against cosmetic surgery of any kind. I just don't think people should do it. I don't think it should be allowed for people under the age of 18. Although now age of consent seems to be rising to 21 so I would extend it to that if this were my world.

Meh, I'll clarify. I'd be against most cosmetic surgeries. I suppose I could allow certain ones like for a cleft palate.

I blame the parents. They are the ones consenting to medical decisions for the kids

Not necessarily. For example, in Canada and I think in California if one parent is opposed to transition and the other is in favor custody is granted to the latter. So even if one parent is doing their best they're legally barred from doing so.
