Would you refuse to sell your home to a developer?

Yes, this picture is a house in the middle of a road being built. It's in China, and the owner refused to sell his house to the road's developer. Unlike the US, there is no eminent domain law in China that would force the owner to sell.

There's many that have. I know of one house the owner refused to sell to the developer/builder of high rise condos. The developer offered the owner $800,000.00 back when the owner would of been doing good to get $300,000.00 for his house but he refused to sell. The developer went ahead with his plans to build several high rise condos and now the home owners house is squeezed in between two high rise condos with very little yard no sun can reach the property for long and the property is no longer worth a cent. As the developer is no longer interested in it and no one else would ever want to live there.

In the UK the government can imposed a compulsory purchase order for things like building new motorways, new rail lines, reservoirs etc. Bit harder for private developers although Trump did try and force people out of their homes in Scotland by building a wall of sand around their properties so he could build a golf course. Not sure how it turned out.

@purplepoppy The US has similar laws, called eminent domain, where the government can take property (must pay fair market value) for the good of the people, for roads, buildings, etc.

And this is perfect proof that China ain't communist as they so proclaim.
Meanwhile America and us other capitalistic countries they would happily take away someone's private property.

Anyway as to the question, for sure if it was enough money just buy another one somewhere why wouldn't I really?

Just depends on the circumstances really. Of course I live in a "development" already and it won't be an issue with me. I used to know a guy who would be about 75 if he were still around. He had some acreage with a house near the coast that had a distant ocean view. He said one day a guy pulled up in a fancy car and offered him some big bucks for the house and land, which he accepted. He never had to work again. LOL...
