How much does jury duty pay in your state/country?

$30 USD here, my girlfriend is in it today, what a slap in the face to anyone who needs actual everyday work pay to pay their weekly bills

Dang…. I haven’t done it since 1998. Aren’t we supposed to have to do it every seven years? Got another notice in my early 20s, only like 4 years after, showed up but hadn’t done some call-in thing ahead of time so I wasn’t on the list, so they just sent me away and said I’d eventually get another assignment. That was probably like 2002, haven’t seen one since😂

Anyway, I was on a jury when I was 19, and I think I got like $50 a day, but I was living at home, I didn’t give a shit, lmao, I was happy to be away from my summer job for a few days, it only cost me a few bucks because I probably made like $7 an hour back then, and I lived at my parents’ and then was going back to a college dorm in a month, so I wasn’t a real-life adult yet, haha.

THIRTY DOLLARS? In 2024? That’s wild, dare I say disrespectful, even. Hope it’s a quick case if she got selected🤞

hi, im intrigued... i was given reprieve from crown court duty because at the time i cared for a disabled lady and was her driver too... i thanked the universe for that escape... at the time my children were 11 and 8 two different schools... i had to be in lewes by 9am which meant 7.30 train ten minutes away... home around 6 to 7... and the case could last weeks... they would pay back expenses, so for me as a single working mum... i didn't even have spare money for a weeks worth of parking and train fares... let alone how to manage two young children before and after school.. so like i said, i was blessed to be caring for her at the time i was drawn... but that allowed me to experience the rigid system that exists.. oh and my loss of wages was my responsibility to claim benefits as not working, this can take weeks to arrange... i completely understand the process, however, it needs to be realistic for modern circumstances not medieval..,

In Canada, some jobs will pay you a regular employee’s deposit when you do jury duty, not the minimum amounts people outside those job roles get. My dad was summoned this month and considered jury duty cause his business pays regular salaries for those that are away for jury purposes. I talked him out of it saying the boss would be irritated if he was paid for doing his job while not providing his boss with any useful labours that would make them money.

here we don't have jury duty. we have educated professionals who are experts in judging the law. we don't let potentially uneducated random schmocks from the street decide over the fate of a person. not saying your girlfriend is an uneducated schmock by any means but you never know who's gonna sit in the jury.

what i think is stupid here tho, is that certain criminals still get privacy rights. like you have no right to know if a sex offender lives in your area. cause either they're in prison or their offense wasn't deemed enough for prison. in neither case are you as someone living in their area entitled to know.

I really don't like smaller higher class elite to pass judgment. When they define "sex offender" who got away with piggate level activity's of any nations variety is spooky to me. That's some secret society shit like skull in bones.

With a jury it's a dozen random people but there your people. There is 12 to balance things out. Ultimately these people over time create our standards of duty to our fellow neighbors. Of the people by the people for the people.

i think i got $ 35. A job with competitive benefits would have jury duty pay like sick pay. Catch 22 of higher jury pay would be higher taxes. I just wish the chair was more comfortable.

I don't get to. I'm basically on the do not call list for jury duty. I think it would be fun though. I've done it in fake trials before as part of an experiment of sorts, but never in a real one. The pay is shite in a shampoo bottle but we had fun in there.

The start date I had the MRI on my heart so just sent a photocopy of that as my excusable and got it granted... neither of my parents have ever been called to serve and they are now 51 and 68

Not much, but legally at least in my state, if you're forced to take a day off for it, it's supposed to be treated like paid time off.

Germany. There are only the judges and the two parties with their lawyer. The judges decide based on the evidence and what the lawyers have added.

You can sign up for the role as "civilian judge", basically you can assist a real judge, even when you have never studied the laws. This is voluntairy and you get a day off, and a few bucks for your hard work. 7€ per hour and your travel to the courthouse are paid. (Its called Schöffe) But every german state has its own laws.
