Three times I got the summons for jury duty in the mail. I completed the forms, and followed the instructions to call a number the evening before to see if the trial was cancelled. Twice it was, so I didn't need to show. The third time, it was still scheduled so I showed up. At the very last minute the lawyers and judge went to the back, then came out. The judge told us they had reached a plea agreement, and our services would not be needed after all, but we would still get paid for showing up. As an added bonus the bailiff and I got a personal summons to the judges office to get our butts chewed out. But I got my ten bucks, and a 1099 at the end of the year so I could put it on my tax return.

yes, got out of it due to work, my job in healthcare was more important that day with surgeries other pressing things. it was a month ago but they had plenty of others im sure things were fine.

I was on a jury the first time I went, when I was 19. Then I got called again in my 20s, but I guess I was supposed to call ahead to some automated phone line or something, as a pre-check-in maybe? I don’t know, I just showed up with the thing I got in the mail. The bailiff said I wasn’t on the list, I showed him the mail, he just shrugged and said “don’t worry about it, just leave, but you’ll probably get another letter for jury duty soon.”

Surprise ending: I have not received any sort of call for jury duty in like 20 years, lmfao.

Yes I have. Several times actually. Most of the time, the jury was filled before they got to my name. But I have been selected 3 times and sat on 3 juries. It was OK. I've always been fascinated by the process. A friend of mine who is a bit older and he is a retired lawyer, told me I should have been a judge. LOL

I was called once when I lived in Indiana, but I moved right before the set date and I sent in a letter saying I was no longer be a resident of Indiana during that time. I figured that might get me off the hook. Found out later the trial was called off anyway. 🤷🏻‍♀️

No lawyer on either side is going to let me be on a jury. I used to have an exemption due to my job, those days are over, but now that I'm law enforcement I always get DQ'd at the start. Been called 7 times (lucky I guess) between my old state and new one. Old state finally took me off the rosters after getting a work memo from my boss's boss's boss's boss, which seemed to persist after I left that job since it was open dated. Unfortunately I don't have one for my new state so I keep having to call the courthouse every time.

Yes, I was called 3 times. The first time I was able to call in a favor from a local politician and he got me out of it. The second time I went and during the interview I said that if the guy got this far through the system he was guilty. I was dismissed. The third time I put the summons on my refrigerator so I would not forget it. I forgot it anyway. I expected the sheriff's dept to serve me but I never heard a peep about ti.

Yes, I've been called to jury duty 4 times. Twice, I sat on a jury, once I didn't have to show up, and once I showed up but was not selected. Serving on a jury, when asked, is an important civic duty, and I would never try to get out if it. I have asked, a few times, for a delay due to travel, and that was granted both times.

I’ve never volunteered as tribute for the Canadian court system. I hope it stays that way. My dad did and he was pisseddddd. He never told us much about the case but we sorta kept tabs on it online. The would be found guilt perpetrator was exactly a simple criminal.

Been called but never picked. Always been excused. Last time it was over a DWI. They asked why shouldn't I be here. Told them that my father was hit by a drunk driver. Drunk got away with it bc his dad was best friends with republican judge. Drunk got away with 1 count of vehicle manslaughter, 2 counts of attempted murder, of course drunk driving.

I was the Foreman on a criminal trial here in Orange County several years ago, and I really liked the experience. I have to say that If I get released by the defense or the prosecution, I am disappointed, as it is a good experience to see how the system works

Yes, I have done jury duty. I received a letter from the court and that was that. It asked me to show up and said that I would be a candidate to sit on a jury.

That was it, though I ended up on a case of an attempted murder. In the end, we found the accused guilty of a lesser charge.

I have twice. I got out of it the first time before I even learned about the trial bc I was a student. The 2nd time, I answered in a way that sounded like I had no real contribution to the trial. You can also say you have a bias one way or another that would interfere with a just and fair trial.

if you live in philly you get called once a year... if you serve on a jury then you get the next years off... i served twice... and went yearly but not chosen

Nope I'm not dumb enough to sign up for voting so I'll never get called in for jury duty. I've heard they get people from the voter registration. Also I don't think they allow military or their spouses to do it.

I've been in the jury duty pool 5 or 6 times, but I'm always something like juror 289 or juror 247 and they call the first 100 jurors for interviews the first day and always successfully form a jury and then excuse the rest of the pool. So I always have to plan to get out of work, but then never have to go to the courthouse.

I wasn't asked to go. I was told to go. I got out of it by telling them I had no transportation and an offering to go if they provided the transportation. Of course they did not.
