I am kind of diving into the spectrum of the American voting system this year, and how much abortion is a big topic. So I'm wondering do you personally know someone that has had an abortion? I'm trying to find out if it is something very common there.

I know a few women who had to have an abortion after they suffered from a miscarriage.

I also went to school with a few girls that had an abortion cause they 1) didn't feel as they were going to give their babies a proper home, 2) they felt they weren't ready to be mothers, 3) some wanted to go to college and felt a baby was going to hold them back, and 4) the boyfriend/baby's father wasn't responsible to care for a baby and some broke up with the girl and because of that and the lack of support they decided to get an abortion.

And one of my friends in highschool had an abortion cause her mom didn't believe she was ready to be a mother (I mean I can see it cause she was like 15/16 at the time), plus my friend's mom was a single mom working two jobs plus taking care of my friend and her other siblings. So her mom took her to get an abortion cause her mom didn't want another baby running around the house. Unfortunately for my friend it kinda messed her up back then and she was constantly in baby fever mode plus on again and off again with depression. Where is she now, well she's married, has 2 kids and will be expecting baby #3 this spring. Oh and just got done texting her about her upcoming baby shower.

I'm sure everyone who isn't a complete recluse knows someone who has had an abortion, they just don't know it because people don't generally advertise such a thing.

Yes. But the big thing is that women don’t advertise that they’ve had abortions. And the very procedure of a standard abortion, by necessity, is performed at an early stage of development, like 90-some% of cases. So the women aren’t even showing yet when they’re having it done, usually.

Don’t believe all the stories about abortions happening in the 9th month, that pretty much never happens, and if it does, it’s some extreme medical situation. Any “uh-oh, I’m not trying to have a baby right now” abortions are happening early on.

I’m pretty sure most 2nd trimester abortions are medical in nature, miscarriages, ectopic pregnancies, etc, and are done for the mother’s safety.

So I say all that to say that many men might think they don’t know anyone, when like half the women they know might’ve had one, those women just weren’t telling their circle of friends about a very personal and sensitive issue.

Yes, I know multiple people who've had abortions. Some for medical reasons, some because they weren't ready to be a parent, and one because it was a result of rape, and I'm confident more women I personally know about have had an abortion than I am aware of.

I believe every one of you knows someone who has had an abortion, whether or not you know about it or not. Because of its stigma its not talked about often, so just because you haven't been told that one of the women in your life has had an abortion doesn't mean none of them have had one.
