Is the anti-spanking vs pro-spanking endless debate similar to religion vs non-religion?

I think they're both endless debates because it never reaches any compromise, esp if the person is adamant on their strong views.

As an atheist that's against spanking kids, I'm always finding that both the pro-spankers and religious folks are the ones more likely to try forcing their views on us, esp if they're using the bible as a guide. Meanwhile, we don't try converting them but they try to do that with us. The only reason I become outspoken about my views is when the other person is going too far with their views, trying to force me to agree with them. Just like I'll never change into their views, I don't expect them to change either.

The best answer so far. It's unbelievable how that ''hit your child for they become better, peaceful people'' is still in practice in this age. Honestly, all that spanking/hitting does is indicate that the parent have lost control of the situation and does it in frustration. They are sure getting rid of their stress but at the cost of taking it out on their own child. Otherwise why would you need to use a household object to gets your points across, why install fear on a defenseless child?
I don't really get much into the religion debate. If they want to believe that some imaginary being it's going to magically solve their problems, then they can continue being ignorant. But the spanking kids really gets me sad, esp those that use quotes from bible to do it.

Nope, unlike religious beliefs there is hard evidence in form of studies and scientific research how bad it is for children to be spanked and how it has absolutely no positive effects.

While religious beliefs are just personal choices which are generally neutral even though there are some folks abusing the beliefs of other to push their agenda.

Even when their own grown-up children turned against spanking, the parents that spanked still think it's so effective, lol. If their own child is now against it, that means no it didn't work.

The difference is spanking has a victim we must protect victims especially small helpless children.

Similarly circumcised a child we must deter parents to save victim. The only covenants is the one himself with god, not cutting a helpless baby who never agreed to such a covenants in the first place!
