Why do some people think spanking children solves the problem of making society more morally correct?

You have no idea how many times I hear older people complain that if parents did more spanking aka "ass" whooping", then teenagers would be more respectful and be seen and not heard. Apparently applying corporal punishment is the solution for all of societies ills. Oh yes if only schools would spank children now, we will not have people demanding equal rights and respect, they will tow the line and if they are at the back of the line, then they better learn to be grateful. If a teen refuses to give up their seat on the bus for an older person, then apparently he has bad parents, and not might be autistic or has a medical issue that causes them to sit down. If kids don't stand up in church, it's disrespectful and bad parents, if only their parents would beat their kids more. And the list goes on, with the never ending complaint of parents not spanking their kids and giving them the freedom to choose for themselves.

Either your parents can teach you discipline or life will. A parent spanking a child is very mild compared to a cop shooting you dead because you are disrespectful/resisting... and mild compared to a stranger knocking your teeth out, stabbing you or whatever because you're disrespectful. There are literally hordes of young kids running around in large groups, robbing, attacking, killing, raping & so on today. This didn't happen when I was a kid. For eons society had a simple solution to deal with kids and it worked. Then some know it alls came a long and just happen to want to do the exact opposite of what scripture teaches. Now, regardless of any evidence that they are wrong they want to continue down that road because their feelings are more important to them than the results.

There is no doubt that society has changed and children have changed. No matter what you think the cause of that is, it isn’t the lack of corporal punishment. Studies are pretty much unanimous that corporal punishment isn’t effective and may even worsen behavioral problems. Older generations like to romanticize how things were when they were raised and expect that nothing should change for future generations. That’s completely unrealistic. Society is constantly evolving. Moral standards change, education changes, technology bombards children with outside influences that didn’t exist in the “good old days”. There are numerous factors at play. Suddenly spanking a child in today’s environment isn’t going to revert society back to the past. People of today are a product of their time period, just as people of the past were.
