I do believe that the popular vote should win the election, and that the actual majority of the entire population should count on their vote to matter and to be counted in

this time around, there are only seven states in which votes will be actually significant and substantial... (for the presidency anyway) and if you do not vote for Nevada, Georgia, Arizona, North Caroline, Pennsylvania, Michigan or Wisconsin... then your vote is neutralized by the electoral college and it is not substantial

only the people from seven states will decide who oversees all the states in the country (from a federal point of view)

the electoral college system has also fostered a deep divide, there's only two real and actual options, never a third that actually matters... and it also feeds another terrible system that should just not exist... districts/gerrymandering

so, for these reasons and others, I've never voted in my life... my vote would go in a Texan ballot, which we all know that it doesn't really matter much if I were to vote Republican or Democrat, Texas will go Red with or without my vote, and would "pretty much never" go Blue with or without my vote

so to me, there's no significant point in voting, lol

No, the Electoral College, as imperfect as it is, maintains the fact that the United States of America is a nation of individual semi-independent states. Popular vote alone thinks the US is one big country, which it's not. Plus, to be realistic, abolishing the Electoral College would require a constitutional amendment, which would be difficult, if not impossible, to do.

Having said that, there are some improvements that could be made to the way Presidential elections are held. It would be good to have more states do what Maine and Nebraska do, allocating their electoral votes by congressional districts and the statewide popular vote, rather than winner takes all as all other states do.

You know, the Electoral College is not much different from the way a Prime Minister (PM) is selected in parliamentary government nations, where the PM winner gets the majority of votes from MPs who each representing a district of voters. Popular vote does not determine the PM.

Electoral college is a threat to democracy actually.
Democracy is supposedly what the people want, yet when we vote on Election Day we are NOT actually voting for who we want to rule our country. We are voting for SOMEONE ELSE to vote for us. That’s not democracy.

Their reason for this is because they consider the people to be NOT informed properly to vote for who we want. (In other words calling us stupid) so why call it a “democracy” when it’s not.

It needs to be removed.

And no it would not affect “small states”
As EVERY SINGLE vote WOULD count not as a “state” but as individuals.

I will never forget the look on Trump's face during the 2016 campaign when he met with some of the electoral college people when they informed him that the election is determined by the electoral college.
He was like WTF!! Then why are we voting?

abolishing the electoral college would defeat the purpose of multi-culturalism and individual communities and allow mob mentality to be the rule

and mob mentality can establish a tyranny by passing such laws

let's say 51% of one side voted for communism to strip the rights of the other 49% the other 49% can't do anything about it

each state can be seen as a typical house in a neighborhood. in each household, there is no murder, rape or anything of the such allowed (federal level) but otherwise each household can live how they wish to live (state level)

No. I don't believe it should be. If it were, every major population center would be the sole decider of the elections and the cities always lean left. It would be one party rule.

We can keep it if we make some changes. Make the electoral votes based on % of the population of a state going one way or the other. If Harris only gets 51% of the vote in California, I don't think it's fair she gets all 55 electoral votes. She should get 28. That should be the case for every state.

No. if that happened New York and California would determine who would be president for ever and ever. Nobody else would ever get any representation.

No. It's not that different from other democracies.

In most democracies you have members of parliments elected and only after that these members of parliment vote for who would become a prime minister (who in most democracies have a greater power than president, who is mostly representative).

In countries that also use single-mandate districts (like UK or Australia) then it's actually almost exactly the same.

Realistically the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact is the best way around the electoral college. Right now 209 votes are in it. 50 more is on the voting docket. So we're getting close to to the magic number of 271.
