Do you think the United States should abolish the electoral college?, that the winner should be determined by the popular vote only?

Many Americans for many decades now, have long believed, thought that, the United States will never be a true democracy until it abolishes the Electoral College, that the rightful or true winner of a Presidential Election should be determined by the popular vote only.

Besides, i think most, or almost all countries world-wide, that have a Presidential Elect-system, they determine their winners on the popular vote only, the US is one of few countries to have an electoral college.

I know i wish or support the electoral college being abolished, but i doubt Republicans would want to part ways with it, because the Electoral College has benefited the Republican candidate in modern times twice, Bush Jr. in 2000, and Trump in 2016, and their oppononent won the Popular Vote over them by a pretty big margin.

Just 5 times in US Presidential Elect history, has the winner lost the popular vote, 3 out of those 5 times occured in the 19th century, the other 2, 2000 between Bush Jr. and Gore, and 2016 between Trump and Hillary Clinton.

The electoral college should be abolished, should cease to exist.

The electoral college should be here to stay.

I am opposed to the idea of amending our Constitution to do away with the Electoral College. The Framers, in their wisdom, were skeptical about pure democracy and created a republic. I think the Electoral College serves a worthy purpose.

Popular vote is kind of nonsense given how vast the turn out differences are between states. You got turn out rates differing from state to state ranging from as low as 50% to 76% depending on their local differences in environment, geography, voting systems, other polices on the ballet etc..

So even if we were a union of 333 million people rather than 50 states the actual popular vote doesn't necessarily represent the people, just the ones that happen to care enough to vote that year.

Its a lot more effective to protect your individual rights voting with your feet than with your ballot, which is why a lot of people go somewhere where they don't need to care enough to use the ballot.

It almost made sense in the 18th century. There's no reason every citizen's vote shouldn't count exactly the same as every other.
