The Suez Crisis in 1956 and the Six Day War in 1967 were both initiated by Israeli attacks on Egypt.

Yes- lamentably, but yes. When you elect a government whose entire policy suite is "death to Israel", then hides behind you when Israel comes knocking, you have no one to blame but yourself.
Israel has tried every lesser form of diplomacy to stop the violence; all have failed. What they're doing now is trying to teach the Palestinians what war actually IS, as a last-ditch attempt to avoid outright genocide, which is the only further step on the list. If Israel had taken a harsher stance decades ago, things might not've had to go this far, but they didn't; they kept trying compassion and negotiation, and it kept backfiring.
Is it horrifying? Disgusting? Immoral? Absolutely. But WAR ALWAYS IS. If Palestine can be made to understand that, there's hope for peace without extermination. If not...

A large number (perhaps half) of those killed were Hamas terrorists. Why do you call Hamas terrorists "innocent"? And many of those "civilians" were actually working for Hamas, plus most deaths were due to Hamas's well-known policy of trying to get as many civilians as possible killed by using them as human shields, including storing weapons in children's bedrooms and using hospitals, schools, and mosques to launch rockets and store weapons (all of which violate the laws of war).
You also don't seem to care about the thousands of Israeli civilians killed by Hamas to deliberately provoke this war, which is one of self-defense.
All casualties of this war could have been prevented had Hamas not attacked Israeli civilians on 10/7, yet Hamas is still getting civilians killed instead of surrendering and returning the hostages they took.

Israel has nuclear weapons. If they wanted to wipe out the Gazans and this this problem forever, 3 medium nuclear weapons along the length of Gaza is enough to solve the problem, but Israel won't do that for a variety of reasons including the genocide factor. After all, Israel was created in response to an attempted genocide on Jews.
But, also, Israel is not taking the US approach. Toward the end of WW 2, the US was looking at invading Japan. A lot of US and Japanese lives would have been lost. Instead, the US used two atomic bombs and showed Japan that it was hopeless. You want to bitch about "killing 45000 innocent people (mostly children)"? Well, the US did a lot more than that on August 6th and August 9th 1945. But it ended the war and, in the long run, saved a lot more lives.
Keep that in mind. Israel could have gone the same thing and there'd never be a problem in Gaza again.

Not comparable at all. Men did not massacre hundreds of people, take dozens of hostages and hide in places where they knew their own people would be killed, using them as human shields. Hamas was elect by Gazans as their government, and then declared war on Israel knowing exactly what would happen.
Hamas needs to be exterminated or it will just happen again, but worse. It's sad that there are innocent people being killed, but that is by the design of their own elected government. Israel taking proactive action to protect its own people by preventing Hamas from mascaraing more in the future is ugly but warranted and justified.

If Israel is going to fight, at all, they had to target them. But they did everything in their power to reduce civilian casualties and frustrate Hamas's attempts to sacrifice its own civilians for the sake of international pity. Up to and including warning them ahead of time that they were going to destroy the place.
