Do you have any veterans in your family. Do you think they are served enough post service?

Many from the last war on terror going right back to before ww1. I had an ancestor fight in the boer wars. One of my great grandfather fought in ww2 from 1939 to 45, from Norway to dunkirk to crete to north Africa to syria to burma Another fought in north Africa, Italy, france, Germany. Another was involved in the battle of the Atlantic. Then my great grand mother was an AA gunner, another was in the RAF during the battle of Britain

Quite a few of my relatives died in WW1, like one went off with all his school mates in 1915 and a year later nearly all them were dead at the Somme.

My brother served in Afghanistan and Iraq. Was involved in some heavy stuff but doesn't talk about it. My cousin was in the RAF regiment as an radar operator and got injured fighting when the taliban stormed a base.

My husband was a us marine.

the only vet is my grandad. he served in the algerian war in the 50s or 60s and was a career soldier. as far as i know since he retired as a general, he does get a good retirement sum and lives very comfortably

No veterans, but one of my great-grandfathers had to flee his home during World War I. He was a young man with family back then. While looking back, he saw his farm and house bombarded.

One of my grandmothers was about to get shot when she was still a kid, she was already in line to get shot with her whole family. Only a miracle prevented this.

These stories make you appreciate that you live and grew up in a country that is at peace.

Rememerance day in Australia 11 / 11 ..
And I think those still alive were pretty much all mistreated and disrespected.
All around the world pretty much , few got the help they needed , many paid the ultimate price , even if they survived the war in war in which they fought.

I have at least eleven ancestors who fought in the Revolutionary War, one who fought in the War of 1812, approximately 15-20 who fought in the Civil War, two who fought in WW I, one who fought in WW II, and two who fought in the Korean War.

One was in Vietnam and survived. Another was in WW2 and did not survive the final push against the Japanese in Papua New Guinea. Another was a WW2 bomber pilot that did survive but was badly affected.

The Viet vets were treated abominably on return and nothing can make up for that.

My dad was a very successful physician. But his proudest accomplishment was his service in the US Navy in World War II. He lived to almost 98 years old and never lost his pride in his country or its military. He considered that service, and the resulting liberation of hundreds of millions of people from tyranny, the most important accomplishment of his lifetime.

My uncle saw some serious shit and was wounded three times. He was a machine gunner killing Nazis in Hürtgen Forest and Aachen, Germany. My dad saw some shit too but in the Navy. My brother in law was in Viet Nam. I served during the Cold War. My nephew was airborne and was sent to places like Nato’s eastern border to send a message to Russia. My grandfather fought in WWI, Belleau Wood. My family fought on the American side of the Revolutionary War as well.

Yes my father was in the US Air Force as an aircraft mechanic and stationed in Viet Nam for 18 months and Rinestat Germany for a year. Neither of my three brothers nor my sisters were in the service.

My dad was in the Air Force during the Vietnam War in the 60's and was stationed in Thailand for a year. My grandpa on my mom's side was in the Army Infantry during WW2. He fought in Battle of the Bulge and then fought in the Pacific islands
