Department of Government Efficiency... headed by two of the most successful people... that have no government experience.

Long time coming in my opinion... better late than never, maybe the only chance we have, to fix our finances. Man... it could be painful though...

What do you think? Does your government have such a function?

First, there is no "Department of Government Efficiency" because cabinet level departments are created by Congress.

However, I think it's a good think for there to be an examination of government efficiency improvements. That's part of what Project 2025 was about although they were drastic - like removing functionality from the Federal Government - and often had ulterior motives (like getting rid of NOAA because they were leading the charge on "climate change alarm industry" which, they said, hampers "American prosperity").

There are many parts of the government which have duplicated effort and could use some realignment. For instance, you can get disaster relief from FEMA and SBA. There should really be only one for that and people have been burned waiting because of the bureaucracy of dealing with two organizations. When the Department of Homeland Security was created in the wake of 9/11, that was a pretty good reorganization in which protecting the internal American nation became its focus. This grouped together several organizations into a more cohesive whole.

What I dislike is for the "experts" to be like The Heritage Foundation who wrote Project 2025; I don't want them to advocate changes that benefit THEM and not the nation as a whole. This, for example, was a major pre-9/11 issue early in the Bush 43 Administration; his "energy policy" advocates were primarily from the oil companies. Not exactly "green" or "renewable". There was quite a bit of uproar about this until 9/11 changed everything.

They can and will make all the recommendations in the world but congress will never pass much of it.

We been here before with countless commissions making countless recommendation far more moderate than I expect from Vivie or Musk and nothing came of it. In the end the federal becuracy exist for the benefit of federal politicians buying votes and exerting power to push their agenda.
Not the benefit of any American.

So it really doesn't matter that we could do the same job for a tiny fraction of the employees as Elon and the rest of the private sector has proven. The employee count itself and their replaceability is an asset to politicians.

@sage2021 New Congress is almost entirely the same as the old congress with a 90% reelection rate they change very little. Most importantly they are all federal politicans most all of whom ran for election because they wanted to push an agenda. Theses agencies are their means to push an agenda as well as buy votes.

Getting most of them to agree to get rid of them is very unlikely, even less likely to stick after the next congress recreates it all.,

If you want real change it has to come from the bottom up leaving them and future federal politician's no choice. In our system that requires the States to work against washignton D. C. Ironicy we might be able to trick leftist into helping us.

For decades we have been running deficits and now the bill has come due. The size and scope of the federal government. Covid had pushed us over the cliff. Its time to fix it. Trump knows how to do it. Elon has had success with his own companies. We need to let Trump do what we voted him into office to do. Get rid of illegal aliens, drill for oil and drain the swamp.

But as a concept and idea that has to be one of the most financially conservative things I have ever seen and it has some libertarian vibes to it to with the smaller government / less spending approach. Love the concept, lets hope the execution is decent.

As far as them having no government experience. That is a VERY good thing. That's what the founding fathers intended... real people who are capable and successful in real like bringing their talents and wisdom to Washington to help the country. They never wanted the career politicians we see these days.

Definitely don’t need politicians to look over the books and point out the waste! In fact. A business person will scrutinize waste more closely. Since they need to do so in order to be successful in their business.
There are too many Porkbarrel projects that get stuck into worthwhile bills. Like the bridge to nowhere in Alaska years back!
I have always found it amazing that during inclimate weather in my state. All nonessential employees were told to stay home. I wonder if they are nonessential in bad weather. Why are they essential in good weather conditions?

Sounds like a great idea to me. Government agencies are bloated and some of them do an extremely poor job of serving their original purpose. Some of them now work for the very corporations they were intended to regulate. Others have become totally abusive

I'm concerned about just how much Trump will really be able to do in office. I think his eyes are bigger than the US bank account. The no taxes on tips and overtime is not going to build up the coiffures of the Treasury. Nor is cutting taxes. Something has to give somewhere along the line.

Sounds like Elon Musk read the report because he aims to trim the budget by $2 trillion by simply laying of unnessesary government employees.
