We have three branches of government: legislative, executive and judicial. Each branch has its own powers and responsibilities to ensure the government is effective and citizens' rights are protected. Trump has made it clear that he will punish anyone who disagrees with him, he has scared many enough that they will not do their duty to protect citizens and their rights. Look at the staff he has announced. Nothing but blind followers, and most are completely unqualified for the jobs he will have them doing. This woman can see that and knows that many of her close friends will be damaged by Trump's gestapo. Thanksgiving celebrates America being founded by people who fled a government that was oppressive. And Christmas celebrates the love of Christ and his caring for all people. Both are celebrations which Trump is oppressing. The author cannot celebrate the goodness of those things surrounded by people who oppose them.

When I first heard of this, I had to think back to all of those family functions. Christmas is a magical time of year. My friends on here know that I live and breathe politics. That's a great post! I was just wondering how many people will get hurt, phisically, at Thanksgiving due to the emotional mess.

I support her decision. It's her emotions and some people feel that way. If she cannot handle the stress, do something else positive. She made some points, can see why she feels that way. But does she realize the other side had to live with the similar issue for 4 years? She had no empathy for her husbands feelings... for those 4 years.

It shows how messed up the situation is and it's mind control. People are too invested in the media. The emotions are divided amoung the camps.

I live in a definitely blue state, and we have accepted that Trump won the election, as much as we are not happy about it. But I have seen no protests here or on the news that would block traffic. They must have been people thoroughly wronged by what Trump has done. Sorry about your inconvenience, but it has nothing to do with a woman who respects the actual meanings of Thanksgiving and Christmas choosing to celebrate with others who also choose the right way.
