Anyone else notice that? you'd think the reason they want to keep defending free speech is to you know state truth to power or something but no usually its people who just want to harass, mock, demean people. Racists desperately wanna use the N word, Homophobes desperately wanna call others the F word (you know what i mean).

They don't want free speech, they want amplified speech without consequences. Something that is encouraged by the internet and social media. Also a step on the road to radicalise people, particularly young men. Ironically, those "free speech absolutists" managed to get this video marked as adult content on youtube.

American free speech seems to be nothing but stirring up hatred and spreading blatant lies. It no longer has anything to do with open debate. You should not have the right to dehumanise someone just because a few guys 300 years ago thought it was a good idea. You may not agree with Bob's lifestyle but he has a right to go about his business without you screaming f***** in his face just because you can.

You've just had an election that was based on a tissue of lies, misinformation, and childish insults that would not be tolerated anywhere else.

Has America ever considered the reason it hasn't moved on from the civil war or the days of segregation is free speech is keeping wounds open? Free speech is what's preventing reconciliation and keeping America the most violent dangerous country in the western world. When you throw words freely, knives and bullets soon follow.

Yes. It’s one of the weirdest hills I see people choose to die on. I always say, I’m pretty sure the racist dudes who wrote our founding documents—WHO OWNED SLAVES— weren’t even trying to construe “free speech” to be for slinging slurs and epithets. It was about criticizing government, etc.

I don’t know about that, but what I do know is everybody in the whole world hates something about somebody or some race or religion. Don’t say that you don’t because you do. you don’t have to think about it either. You know what you hate. I know I do, I’ll honestly tell you this. I've noticed the opposite trend where the people opposed to free speech are aggressive racists who advocate for institutional discrimination and see the entire world through a racial lens while actively preaching racism against certain groups. And the free speech people preach egalitarian values.

Yeah it literally just means the government can't prosecute you over free speech. That's it. That's all it means. There are still consequences outside the US government.
