Trump's immigration plans are to:

1) “carry out the largest domestic deportation operation in American history”.

2) Withdraw birthright citizenship, bar undocumented children from schools & forcibly separating children from their parents at the border.

3) To dismantle the asylum protection system

Local police are ADAMANTLY against being deputized or having to enforce federal immigration laws. They say that it will:

1. It undermines the trust and cooperation with immigrant communities. They will turn to gangs for protection exponentially making local policing more difficult.

2. Local agencies do not possess the adequate resources to enforce these laws

3. Immigration laws are very complex and the training required to understand them significantly detracts from the core mission of local police

4. Local police do not possess clear authority to enforce these laws. Even if given the authority, the federal government does not have the capacity to handle the volume of immigration violations that will occur.

5) The lack of clear authority increases the risk of civil liability for local police and government (qualified immunity).

6) Highly increases likelihood of violence against officers.

It's just Trump talk - aka bullshit.

Firstly, you cannot just "deport" anyone. The legal process requires their nationality be ascertained and their country of origin be notified to provide travel documents.

Once those costs have been covered, the next step requires them being held until that flight can be arranged. After that cost has been covered, the next step is to get them on that flight and them being deported and received.

The military can only deal with the last step realistically. But it will be at a much higher cost than using conventional pilots and security agencies.

So it's unrealistic at best.

ICE agents should be used as the primary force to arrest and deport both illegal aliens and the government officials that choose to obstruct the ICE agents trying to do their job. The National Guard can be used to do administrative and transportation functions and to insure that the illegal aliens are safe and well taken care of until they can be sent back to where they came from.

I'd say use of the military makes sense. The federal government is meant to ensure the border is protected and secured. Since they failed that that, they should clean up the mess themselves which means using the military rather than state and local resources. Of course, if the state is fine using state and local resources they should do that too.

I read that mass deportation would cost America close to $200,000,000,000 plus devastate the construction industry which hire many undocumented folk.
