Why didn't Susan Smith give the father full custody of the 2 kids?

That's the woman that lied about her kids (ages 1 and 3) being kidnapped by a black man when she drowned them herself. I've heard that case before but till this day it's hurtful. She was already cheating on her husband and didn't want the kids. Instead of doing that horrible crime, wasn't the simple solution giving the man full custody of both kids?

I just saw the poor man suffering 30 years later. I'm sure he would've gladly accepted being a single father and divorcing her. If the mother doesn't want the kids and they have a loving father, then give him the kids.

That was the first time I saw the devil... in her face in a newspaper. It was so distorted. Emotions replicate to the face.

I'd like you to go interview her... it's unfortunate we don't have the ability to talk to criminals. but if you get into a church/prison program... maybe could. she's in SC.

Very memorable story for me. Because women don't think right sometimes... it's not logical, it was probably a very rash decision that couldn't be reversed once started. heartless. So it could be hormones being off, or some other pattern in her personality where she is much more unstable due to early life traumas yet to be exposed. Challenge is trust is broken, not sure can trust her today...

how does one recover from that trauma (him)? Clearly he was a nice guy and she was on that emotionally off spectrum to hide and like like that. What and how, how they attracted, what was going on that caused her to go nuts, that be good to find out. In that, is the healing. "the truth shall set you free".

It's so tragic. The solution was right there in her face. All she had to do is tell him ''I don't want them, take them'' and he would've gladly closed the door in her face and raise his kids. Then she would be free to run off to her lover and do whatever she wanted with her worthless life instead of sitting in prison.

The evil monster recently still had the nerves to throw a tantrum and cried because she got denied parole and has to wait two years later to see if she's eligible. Nope she never gets out. Meanwhile her ex husband is fighting for her to remain behind bars forever. He doesn't ever want her to be released.
Even present-day, she doesn't shed real tears. If she cries, it was only for herself after getting parole denied.

yes there's many cases of people just leaving and walking away. Do you think most of us are capable of evil? She maybe a different flavor.. and some have better means to manage their emotions than others. Hormones off, in some emotional state of "fight/flight"... anything is possible. History is full of people going off in a second, then looking for ways to hide and justify it.
I'd assume on the narcissistic, selfish side as well. Some do very well with it.
I doubt she's a threat to society at this point... if thats the criteria. But manipulative, yes. Fully accept her role... doubt it. Wouldn't blame him for that... seem unfair.
Interesting how life is not fair. Some people kill their kids 18 months - 10 months and free as a bird. Some people kill and murder during war... but it's legal.
Others it's not.

why would she? abortion is normalized in society. killing her 1 and 3 yr old isn't too far of a stretch and MeToo movement inspired lynching of black men still exist today as they did in the past and weaponizing kids is the best hostage strategy to be employed against the "patriarchy" she hated the most

Well if she would've given him full custody (and the husband finalizing his divorce, throwing her to the curb), then she would still have the freedom of chasing her lover and/or all the men she wanted to instead of serving prison time and eating horrible meals.

He probably rejected them to free up time with his women. Thats what mothers are for after all.

Then she could've left them with other family members at call a police station and give up her parental rights. She had other options. Any of those were way better than what she did.
Then she could've run off with her lover instead of sitting in prison.

Indeed. She had the solution right there in her face. Had she given him the kids, she could've gone off with her lover and chase the single life all she wanted to.
