Why is a 50/50 custody arrangement considered a loss for the mother and a win for the father?

Might depend on the marriage rules from the place. I'd think that society tends to see mother's as more emotionally attached to their offspring and, for good reason, because nature enabled most women to bear children for 9 months, give or take, so, even if it's 50/50 the woman may still feel cheated out by the courts. Now, whether she is actually losing out on x amount of monies depends too on her own financial capacity to care for her children. If she is unable to fulfill this, then she may request a second appeal on the basis on inability to sustain a child during care.

Because legally the mother gets sole custody by default as she literally birthed it. So giving 50/50 is by default a loss for her and a win for him.

That's straight up stupid though. That suggests that the father is not important, when he literally is, statistically single mothers produce the worst people. And studies have shown that 50/50 split is best.

Women should not have custody just based on vagina.

You and me both. My mom was abusive, violent, drug addicted and encouraged her boyfriend to rape me when I was 6. And the state would not take me from her.

Agreed, when I told my wife the story of why I don't talk to her, she reacted by crying and putting her arms around me.

We decided early on that if we have kids, she will never know. It's unlikely that she knows I'm married.

It's a social thing. Women who participate in family court call it a loss.

In my opinion, and the stats back this, 50/50 is best.
