Elon & Vivek's DOGE is considering trying to eliminate Daylight Savings Time. Do you support that?

IT'S ABOUT TIME! Talk about stupid and inefficient, this ridiculous changing of the clocks twice a year is a drag on the economy and a giant PITA for our citizens. It's time to get rid of it once and for all.

It falls into the category of efficiency for our economy so it makes perfect sense that it's on the list of projects for Elon and Vivek's DOGE.

But unfortunately it has to be approved by Congress. They need to get the message that we want this to be done... NOW!

Hell YES! People have enough to think about without worrying about changing their clocks twice a year and trying to figure out what time it is in some other state. It's inefficient, outdated, and wasteful of our time. Liberate us from this stupid law!

NO... I think we should have to change our clocks to a different time every day.

It useful for any outdoor job, not just farming. Construction workers, surveyors, field biologists, landscapers, pool cleaners, civil engineers, oil men, etc. all live by the light in a way. It's hard to do a lot of outdoor work when it's still dark outside, especially when you are dealing with clients that are probably still sleeping. Many times trade workers show up when it gets light. When seasons change, so to does the time of day when it gets light. Day light savings help with that a little. While professional workers sit in well lit climate controlled office buildings, people that do physical jobs have to deal with the shifting time of light and the temperature fluctuations that go along with them. So either way you are going to make one sector or another less efficient and force them to switch times around causing confusion for workers.

I don't get how you don't see the parallel. A shifting clock is bad for efficiency for professionals in lit climate controlled office buildings, just as a shifting clock is bad for a layman that has to change schedule to accommodate the tilt of the earth. It's an indoor/outdoor thing. One side or the other has to adapt more so, leaving them with the short end of the stick and thus becoming less efficient. You can't help one without hurting the other. It would all come down to what percent of the GDP is professional workers vs labors basically.

So let us make it a half hour DST And everyone should be happy getting screwed equally. The original idea was for farm work the other reasons given were not even thought of when enacted.

So basically real estate, construction, resources, agricuture, transportion, utilities, part of manufacturing, part of education, part of R&D, and part of government, get less efficient but over all the remaining sectors of the economy are a larger combined share of GDP.

I have no idea what doge is but, I've been saying for decades that we should just move the clocks half an hour and leave them there!

It REALLY sucks that, during fall and winter, it gets dark at 5:00!! Then, in the summer, we have nice long nights that don't start going dark `til at least 9:00!!
I tend to go to bed very late and get up late so, I'll get up and, 3 hours later, it's dark already!! Even if I get up at dawn, I STILL don't get more than 10 hours of sunlight!

Oh! Okay. I'd heard of it a few times but nobody ever explained what it was.
Well, within the next few weeks, it WILL be getting dark around 4:00, here! Just over a month ago, it was daylight `til at least 8:00!

Official sunset here now is about 4:15 pm. Starts getting dark around 2!

I lived in Arizona years ago and they don't observe the time change. It was nice. Only Arizona and Hawaii don't have it.

Almost every job I have had in my life involved dealing with states in other time zones. It added an unnecessary complication to always have to plan around both the time zone AND the change the clock twice a year issues.

It might be that you'll have it all year. The point they're making it is that the clocks should not be changed. It can be one time or the other was split the difference

So they could switch to Daylight Savings Time all year around (which I think they likely would do if they do it at all) or split the difference and take 1/2 hour off of DST and make it that time all year around.

Daylight savings time is one hundred years behind. it was needed so the farmer's family could work the fields in daylight to get the crops in before the frost killed them, it is the main reason for DST
