When I was a younger man, I was a fan of daylight savings time, as it of course provided an extra hour of daylight into the evening hours, which were owned by me, not by my 6AM to 2:30PM employer, allowing me to conduct my outdoor affairs later into the evening, until Standard time annually raises its ugly head for some months.
Now retired, I no longer care what time it is.
For those who insist that Standard time be permanently adopted, as it is more astronomically correct than DST, I would insist, for the sake of my younger fellow humans, that the business world must then shift their operational hours one hour earlier in the day.
The Standard time advocates would then get their way, and the people who care deeply about having daylight extending further into the evening also get their way.
Intriguing solution.
Daylight Savings Time (DST) was originally a good idea when it started 100 years ago but in today's world where people live and work long hours and there's activity 24 hours a day, DST is no longer needed.
DST messes up peoples' sleep patterns for days after the change is made.
DST also creates unique issues for modern computer systems. In Spring (where clocks are set one hour ahead) there is no 2am hour, only a 23-hour day. In Autumn (where clocks are set back) there are two 2am hours in a 25-hour day. The amount of specialized software necessary to properly maintain and deal with that is huge, and much of it is flawed with software bugs.
And the fact that not all places follow DST consistently, some not at all, makes life challenging.
Thanks for MHO
In EU it's called winter and summertime and EU parliament tried to get rid of it 2020. Unfortunately people took this too positive and too enthusiastic, politicians in parliament hate doing something in interest of the people like so this isn't a topic anymore. I guess if people in EU would praise winter and summer time change like "we love that"..."Setting up clocks and watches makes lot of fun"..."Nazi Germany introduced winter time, it's must be good" then EU parliament would vote to get rid of this time change in emergency meeting.
Never had an issue with it before having a kid. Now, it messes up his sleep schedule a lot whenever daylight savings changes. That extra/minus hour throws us through a loop.

I'm just gonna try to ignore that it's happening
I HATE time changes. I really like experiencing the gentle change of seasons and the gradual lengthening and shortening of days. Setting clocks forward and back messes with our circadian rhythms and divorces us from nature.
Just pick a time and stick to it.
I can take it or leave it. The changing of a TV room clock, three microwaves (kitchen, small one in guest room and workroom), a stove, guest room clock, workroom clock is a pain in the rear. We're on the crappy side of a zone anyway (furthest east).
What the US needs to do is to come up with far better boundaries for the Central time zone- it almost creeps over to Knoxville for pity sake. And Indiana's time boundaries look like they have been through a blender!!!
Note to some: Daylight is not really "saved". We are just shifted relative TO the daylight for part of the year. Functionally, people are going to need lighting- whether in the morning or evening- so the supposed "energy savings" isn't much of a reality, if at all.
Ehhh... it's a mild inconvenience, but not like the worst thing in the world or anything. There are like a literally a thousand much worse things for me to worry about.
At most it only throws me off for a day or two whenever it does happen, but by day three I'm pretty much 100% good to go.
After all it's only 1 hour. Not 5 hours or anything crazy like that. Lol.
Believe me after spending the past 7 months in hot, uncomfortable weather, I look forward to having it get cooler and darker early.
People are more mellow when it's dark and comfortable weather.
It always makes me want to cook up a nice pot of stew 😋 or homemade soup. Back sweet things. Make a fire in the fireplace and relax. re-state//background_color_rgba (0, 0, 0, 0), font_color_rgb (77, 77, 77), justifyLeft
I never knew people had issues with it
I've lived in dts countries my whole life
Yeah its a little adjustment a couple of times a year but it’s hardly a major crisis
In a world with so many problems this one should be at the very bottom of the list
AGAINST!
This is an antiquated practice that no longer has any useful purpose. Should have been abolished decades ago.
It results in more deaths and illness through accidents (in cars and otherwise) and health issues.
It reduces worker productivity.
It is ANNOYING AS HELL! Who is in favor of it getting dark outside at 4 o'clock in the afternoon in the freezing cold?
It's a pain in the ass for people who need to plan things.
GET RID OF IT NOW!!!
I can't remember the city, but on one side of the street it's 4:00 PM, and on the other side it's 5:00 PM.
Wife: You're home early.
Husband: No I'm not.
Wife: But you get off at 5:00 PM.
Husband: Correct.
Wife: But it's 4:10 PM
Husband: Correct.
🤣🤣🤣 I think I heard about that street. I lived in Arizona at one time for about 13 years and they don't have it. It was really nice to have one less stupid government issue to worry about.
I think it was on the county line or something. We just need a universal time.
I think it is currently on a state by state basis and only two states don't have it.
But I thought I remembered a time when one state (I think it was in the upper mid-west like Iowa or Indiana) had part of the state on it and the other half not. Not sure of my recollection on that.
But even at the state level, you can live and work on different sides of the line.
Yes, but it would have to be a state border in the middle of the road.
Found it...
"From 1970 until 2006, most of Indiana in the Eastern Time Zone did not observe daylight saving time, but the entire state started to do so in April 2006"
That sounds about right.

How is it saving daylight? Yesterday, it got dark at 7:30. Today, it got dark at 6:30! In a month, it'll get dark at 5:30!! If anything, we should've moved the clocks an hour ahead!!
But, I've been saying for decades that we should just move it half an hour and then just leave it the fuck alone from then on!!
Yes to make up for the hour lost since time (clock time) started.
Forget that, let’s talk about this shitty weather. We’re already 4 days into November and it still feels like spring out here. What kinda bullshit is that? It will literally be cool and breezy in the morning, but then it wants to get all hot and shit as soon as P. E. is over. As if I wasn’t sweaty enough from basketball
I personally like it, but I think most people don't share my enthusiasm for the time change.
If we are going to abolish the time changing, then I would prefer to keep daylight savings time year round.
Definitely completely against that annoying and generally probably useless custom. I plead for one standard time definition according extended regions. That time should remain the same along the years.
I'm not in the growing phase of my life anymore so I don't need sleep the way I did when I was younger. I am perfectly okay running on 4 hours if I have a flight to catch to another country or back home.
We were never anywhere CLOSE to getting rid of it; Congress attempted to make it PERMANENT. Luckily, that fell through.
It should be done away with. Want more daylight when you're working? Go to work earlier.
Not at all. I travel a lot between different timezones, so I am used to it. And it gives nice long evenings in summer
I hate it, I can't stand it getting dark earlier, I can't see a damn thing when I'm driving at night with people's damn led lights, and they do this right at deer season too smh re-state//background_color_rgba (0, 0, 0, 0), font_color_rgb (77, 77, 77), justifyLeft
Absolutely hate the time changes. Do nothing but mess with me, my animals, and my kid. Not to mention having to go around and change all the clocks, which if you're like me you have a lot in your house and not all are digital.
Should keep dst' all year, not change in winter.
In Australia , I absolutely LOVE it , brilliant use of available daylight.
I think it's no longer serving any purpose and only serves to complicate things twice a year. I wish we would simply stop doing it.
I like daylight savings time. I like being able to hang out side in the evening while the sun's still up for a while
I’m only for the fall back part because I get an extra hour of much needed sleep the spring forward one can go die a firey death
Against. Stop fucking with the time! There are 24 hours in a day and that's all there's ever going to be.
I am against it because it puts you in time pressure That the day is finishing off quickly. I want to have extra time in my hand so that I feel relaxed. re-state//background_color_rgba (0, 0, 0, 0), font_color_rgb (77, 77, 77), justifyLeft
I hate it , especially falling back because I’m coming home in the dark and usually still working in the dark before I’m done and makes it harder to do when it starts getting darker by 4:15 as winter approaches
I used to be against it because clocks needed to be adjusted
But now clocks eg phones automatically adjust so it really goes unnoticed
I had to adjust only the car and the kitchen clockre-state//background_color_rgba (0, 0, 0, 0), font_color_rgb (0, 0, 0), justifyLeft
I’ve always liked it. It makes long summer days more special and fun and colder winter days more cozy and relaxing.
I like it. It is a nice rite of spring to get an extr hour of daylight.
Against, the adjusting is annoying and the benefits minimal at best.
I'm against it, because I don't think changing the clock solves any real-world problems.
I wish we could just leave the clocks on regular time. I don't see any need for DST anymore.
Against. We should be on standard time all the time
I'm up in the air about it ✈️🛫✈️🛫 , 😁re-state//background_color_rgba (0, 0, 0, 0), font_color_rgb (77, 77, 77), justifyLeft
I love it. I love synchronizing all of my clocks the day before. It feels like I got tomorrow's work done, today. I love seeing all the clocks say the same time.
They should get rid of it why fall back just leave it the way it is
We should stay in daylight savings time permanently all year long.
That is the only logical combination! 🏅👨🎓👍
No one likes DST! re-state//background_color_rgba (0, 0, 0, 0), font_color_rgb (77, 77, 77), justifyLeft
screw daylight savings...
To be honest I often forget it exists. I don’t have any busy schedules, and my phone adjusts the time on its clock for me.
I'm dead set against it. We need to revoke British Summer Time and keep Greenwich Mean Time.
Simples...
They can fall back and keep it that way but I like a lot of daylight not getting dark at 5 o’clock at night 515 530
That is backwards.
If you don't move clocks in October, you won't have earlier sunset.
@strateguy632 well later on with this time it gets dark later around 7 o’clock, but now it’s getting dark at 5:30 it will tonight
Exactly! Your reason supports the opposite side you wrote! "Not can fall back" because now "now it’s getting dark at 5:30! " meaning should not have changed it to fall back.
Now the dark time is called standard but your reason supported not fall back but keep dst'. Which i agree.
Hate that it gets dark early, kind of depressing lol
It's lifere-state//background_color_rgba (0, 0, 0, 0), font_color_rgb (77, 77, 77), justifyLeft
I like DST and always look forward to the changes. I can't understand the people who have problems adjusting. I mean come on, are you really that inflexible?
I'm for daylight savings time all year. I like extra light in the evening.
I like it, but I think because it seems kind of like a tradition.
Here in Finland its a great thing. So I vote for it!
That is useless right next to zodiac signs. Rather do without both.
That's like saying "are you for or against the earth's movements around the sun" we can't control the celestial planets and stars
It’s time to stop this stupid time changing shit. Spring forward and leave it. Nothing is more miserable than it being dark at 5pm.
I like it, but it isn't particularly practical. It's kind of like a tradition.
Im definitely for it re-state//background_color_rgba (0, 0, 0, 0), font_color_rgb (77, 77, 77), justifyLeft
I like it lighter in the evening. It gives me more time to go for a walk and safer to go home after work.
I am Against it. Leave time as is, stop charging it. I even woke up an hour earlier. 🫠
For it. I hate when it gets dark early in the evening...
About 55/45 against, but I can see why it was once needed.
I think it’s pointless
Yes, I wish we could have long afternoons year round.
I like getting extra sleep. But have clock went back a week ago.
I’d like to see it year round
