Actually, it was Russia who finally stepped in after 8 years of attempted negotiations to prevent further slaughter of people in eastern Ukraine and Crimea by their own government. Our media never talk about that.

It's actually not. US/NATO sending weapons to Ukraine is only adding fuel to the fire. Ukraine joining NATO instead of remaining neutral is a big part of why the war happened. Overthrowing the Ukraine government in 2014 which led to the killing of ethnic Russians didn't help things either.

It's also the only reason Ukraine is still in the fight. Remove Nato weapons and support, Ukraine will have to rely on Europe to pick. up the slack and more in order to keep it up in the meat grinder Russia and North Korea are doing. That's why zelensky said if America or nato withdraws support, they'll be making a small nuke for defense against Russian aggression.

US/NATO stops giving Ukraine weapons, they will be have no choice but to negotiate a peace agreement instead of fighting a unwinnable proxy war. FYI in 2022 Ukraine and Russia had a peace agreement mediated by Turkey and Israel that would have prevented this war, but we sent Boris Johnson to sabotage it because war is more profitable than peace.

The Budapest Memorandum didn't provide security guarantees. American negotiators purposely wrote it that way. They explicitly didn't want to tie America to Ukraine's security.

There has been a post hoc revisionism in some circles to pretend the memorandum gave guarantees it didn't as a justification to support Ukraine. As well as the idea that Ukraine traded its leftover Soviet nuclear arsenal for said security guarantees. Like it was an actual concession on Ukraine's part.
