I'm not in favor of banning books for children either. If a minor is interested in reading something, it won't harm them. It may upset the adults around them, but there are not and never have been adults saying they were traumatized by some porn they voluntarily viewed when they were young. If something is upsetting to a child, they will put it down.
What really harms minors? Forced sexual contact with adults.
I could post the quote from a book that is allowed in some school libraries but when I do that my post gets reported. If you want I could private message you a quote from a book that is quite lewd and inappropriate for minors to be reading. I don't think schools should be handing kids stories with obscene material, especially to that degree.
Inappropriate? In what way? Because some adults are uncomfortable with it? Their opinion doesn't matter. There is only one opinion that matters -- the reader's, regardless of their age. You are ignorant if you imagine that sexually explicit scenes are not found in mainstream literature. Plenty of mysteries are quite sordid but are not considered erotic. Then of course there is the Bible, full of deviant sex and brutality.
No. As banning just means the government and its institutions do not support its dissemination. Or society will judge you negatively for having it.
Take the anarchists cookbook, for example. It's a banned book as it gives steps on how to make deadly bombs and munitions. Obviously if you really want it, then there are plenty of ways to get it. But you can expect no leniency in court, if you were to be found with it in your possession. At best they will think you a cuckoo with delusions and you'll lose all standing in society.
I can't think of a single time when the people who banned books were the good guys. Banning books doesn't work. And it makes me want to read the books even more.
Opinions shouldn't be banned, misinformation should be. Facts are checkable so there's nothing wrong with banning books of lies.

Books for adults should not be banned. If someone doesn't want to read a particular book, they don't have to.
I'm not even sure if certain books should be banned from children, although some books with adult themes should be restricted and should require parental approval.
Very wrong. We should be able to read anything we want.
It's kind of like thought police isn't it? Even if it's books on how to build like a 💣 or a flamethrower or guns or anthrax they should be legal.
Banning that book that a pedo made as a guide on how to get away with being a pedophile, was probably a good thing. Author went to prison.
Other than that, no government should criminalize the possession of a book. They don't have to proactively support the book though. Especially financially. Separate conversation. Banning and not supporting and completely different topics.
Anyone who wants to show adult sexual content to children is absolutely a pedofile. Including the people here on GAG. That was one of the topics from the pedo's book actually. It was a main component of grooming. Please seek therapy for your pedophilia.
I'm fully against banning books unless they're literally detailing how to do illegal horrid shit.
Banning books for adult is 100% wrong. It's one thing if it is applied to children because they are impressionable but once they are adults, they should be able to get whatever book they want.
yes as an adult we should be read whatever we want
The only books I think should be banned are ones full of extreme sexual violence and perversion or occultic themes, like The Kindly Ones from Jonathan Littell, and Blood Meridian from Cormac McCarthy.
@Juxtapose i'm cool with kids reading pornography if that's what they want to do. most romance novels get pretty close. you still have to use your imagination though. the pornography cannot have pictures or diagrams
Yes, there should be book bans. Unless we’re okay with books promoting genocide against certain people groups? Also, I’m pretty sure that we’re not allowed to buy the Anarchist’s Cookbook anymore? Just a watered down version without any recipes that work.
I'd be concerned with some themes. Pedophilia for example. I'd just reason that themes like that could normalize it in some peoples minds. There is good reason we vilify some things.
Well a book that explicitly tells you how to molest children and get away with it should obviously be banned. So yeah, some books do need to be banned.
Yes then could cause folks to forget what happened in history then we get what we get In 1930s Italy.
In school libraries... no.
In an adult library... probably no.
I was inclined towards no, but then someone mentioned "how to make a bomb".
That said: "The once top-secret Simple Sabotage Field Manual, written in 1944 by the CIA’s precursor, the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) is now declassified and freely available on the CIA website. The Simple Sabotage Field Manual was once distributed to OSS officers abroad to assist them to train citizen-saboteurs in occupied countries like Norway and France."

It is not about making bombs, it is about how to slow things down, to make them less efficient:
Child pornograhy and the quran is the only acceptable ban for adults.
It's a book that exuses or orders it's followers to commit pedophillia, murder, rape, subversion, enslavement and conquest.
Most English versions these days are softened for a western audience. here is some from memory
Quran 9.4 When meeting the unbelievers invite them to become muslim, Or to bebome dimmis, pay the jizya subdue them and make them feel subdued. if they have still refused...
Quran 9.5 And when the sacred months have passed, then fight the unbelievers, Wait for them in Ambush Kill them wherever you find them. But if they should repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, let them [go] on their way. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
The prophet married a six year old girl and consummated the marriage when she was 9. when the prophet was asked about how long they must wait before they can have sex with the girls they have captured from war. it was 3 menstrual cycles, if they where too old to menstruate it was 3 months. but if they where too young to menstruate then it was also 3 months. a female that is too young to menstruate is still a child.
later verses can cancel out earlier ones. so read the last 5 chapters in the order of revelation. they are the most violent and cancel out anything peaceful that has been written before it.
I have Quoted 9.4 and 9.5 already. the Quran was peaceful at first then because violent later, Later verses can abrogate later ones (in the order of revelation by the prophet) So you just read the last 5 Surahs out of the total 114 and they will cancel out any peaceful ones that you will no doubt try to Quote later.
Quran 2.106
If We ever abrogate a verse or cause it to be forgotten, We replace it with a better or similar one. Do you not know that Allah is Most Capable of everything.
here is a list of that order of revelation. https://tanzil.net/docs/Revelation_Order
The last 5 Surahs are therefore in descending order 21, 20,22,6 and 114
Also watch this video and if you don't believe the quote in it then pull out your Quran and read the quoted verses for yourself.

Sure is, even books by such monsters as Hitler (whose "Mein Kampf" I read as a young man before Canada banned it).
Is anyone trying to ban book for adults?
